REJECTION!
Isaiah 53:1-5 TLB
But, oh, how few believe it!
Who will listen? To whom will God reveal his saving power? [2] In God's eyes he
was like a tender green shoot, sprouting from a root in dry and sterile ground.
But in our eyes there was no attractiveness at all, nothing to make us want
him. [3] We despised him and rejected him-a man of sorrows, acquainted with
bitterest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way when he
went by. He was despised, and we didn't care. [4] Yet it was our grief he bore,
our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a
punishment from God, for his own sins! [5] But he was wounded and bruised for
our sins. He was beaten that we might have peace; he was lashed-and we were
healed!
Many of us experience
painful, traumatic rejections at some point in our lives. We may have been
discarded, unwanted, and unaccepted by those who should have embraced us, or
cast away from where we rightfully belong.
Alienation, isolation, and
rejection are paralyzing. People reject others daily, causing great pain. Since
we reject others and are often rejected ourselves, it’s easy to assume that God
rejects us too.
Everyone has experienced
rejection in life—it’s nothing new. From childhood to adulthood, rejection can
manifest in various forms: being excluded from friendships, overlooked in
professional settings, or misunderstood in family relationships. These experiences
leave emotional scars that shape how we see ourselves and others. But we must
remember that rejection is not a reflection of our true worth—it is often a
reflection of others’ inability to recognize it.
Even Jesus Christ was
rejected and continues to be rejected daily. He came to His own, and His own
did not receive Him in John 1:11. People reject Christ every second,
intentionally or unintentionally—by ignoring His love, resisting His truth, or
choosing worldly values over His kingdom. Isaiah 53:3 tells us that He was
“despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.”
Humanity did not appreciate His worth or esteem Him, yet He bore our pain and
carried our sorrows.
Rejection refers to a
mindset ingrained in us that tells us we are unloved, unwanted, or will never
be good enough. It whispers lies that distort our identity and worth. This
mindset drives us to strive for acceptance, often at the cost of our peace and
authenticity. We may seek validation through achievements, relationships, or
approval from others, hoping to silence the inner voice of rejection.
But no amount of performance
can satisfy the longing for unconditional love. The spirit of rejection is a
spiritual stronghold—a lie from the enemy that must be confronted with the
truth of God’s Word. You are not defined by who rejected you, but by the One
who accepted you before the foundation of the world. In Christ, you are chosen,
loved, and secure.People feel compelled to perform in order to be approved,
making them feel loved for what they do rather than for who they are. Sadly, no
achievement is ever enough to satisfy or override the spirit of rejection.
Rejection is a lie from the
enemy—a syndrome of self-talk rooted in falsehoods. A lie told often enough
becomes accepted when the victim agrees with the accusations and becomes their
own accuser. The deceit becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Rejection in life may come
through the loneliness of relational failure, the confidence-breaking
experience of job termination, or the self-condemnation of a guilty conscience.
Isaiah tells us about the
rejection Jesus suffered on behalf of humanity. Christ not only knew the
rejection of men but also that of God the Father, even while suffering the pain
of the cross. If man rejects God daily, they will reject you too—but God will
never reject you. According to John 6:36–38, never feel like you’re alone. The
Lord knows and understands how it feels to be rejected, despised, and isolated.
The stronghold of rejection
is powerful, and it can only be torn down by God's truth. Choose to believe the
truth, because only the truth you know can set you free. The truth of God's
love cures every wounded soul.
The woman caught in adultery
in John 8 was rejected by her town. They wanted to lynch her and hoped Jesus
would join them—but to their disappointment, He didn’t reject her. Neither will
He reject you.
Rejection undermines the
confidence of many Christians and interferes with true fellowship between
friends, man, and God. Rejection is the worst pain the human spirit can suffer.
Anyone who has been abandoned, abused, or endured discrimination can relate to
this anguish.
We should never try to deal
with rejection by ourselves. We must bring it to God, as 1 Peter 5:7 invites us
to do.
God loves us so much—He
accepts us just as we are!
God loves us too much to
leave us as we are. Allow His love to overwhelm you and help you overcome
rejection.
God’s loving light
illuminates our hurting hearts and heals them. Only then, through Christ's
love, authority, and truth, can we overcome rejection. Let the Prince of Peace
fill you with His love.
You are not rejected!
