CHILD-FRIENDLY PASS DOWN THE PROMISE, NOT THE WILDERNESS!

Deuteronomy 4:9-10 GNT

Be on your guard! Make certain that you do not forget, as long as you live, what you have seen with your own eyes. Tell your children and your grandchildren [10] about the day you stood in the presence of the LORD your God at Mount Sinai, when he said to me, 'Assemble the people. I want them to hear what I have to say, so that they will learn to obey me as long as they live and so that they will teach their children to do the same.'

What Does This Mean?

Families often share stories and traditions. God wants us to share His promises and His Word with our children—not bad habits like complaining or disobeying Him.

The phrase “Pass down the promise, not the wilderness” means:

*   Give your children faith in God’s promises.

*   Don’t pass down fear, grumbling, or disobedience like the Israelites did in the wilderness.

God brought Israel out of Egypt to give them a beautiful land full of blessings (Exodus 3:7–8). The wilderness was only supposed to be a short training time, but because the people complained and didn’t trust God, they stayed there for 40 years! (Numbers 14:26–35)

God told them to remember His miracles and teach their children about His goodness (Deuteronomy 6:10–12). In Joshua 4:1–9, God told them to set up memorial stones after crossing the Jordan River. These stones were reminders of God’s faithfulness—not their mistakes.

What Should We Pass Down?

·       Stories of God’s goodness

·       Bible promises

·       Faith and obedience

·       Love for Jesus

Not complaining, fear, or rebellion.

Paul told Timothy to keep his faith strong and teach others (2 Timothy 1:5; 2:1–2). We should do the same—share the gospel and live in God’s promises.

How Can We Do This?

Tell your kids about times God answered prayers.

Read the Bible together every day.

Say “thank You” to God instead of complaining.

Show kindness and forgiveness like Jesus.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

·       What stories about God can you share with your family?

·       What promise from the Bible can your family hold on to?

·       How can you show trust in God today?

PRAYER: Lord, help me teach my children about Your love and promises. Help us trust You and follow You every day. Amen.

Shalom
