DECEITFUL PRIDE WARNING!
Obadiah 1:3 AMPC
The pride of your heart has
deceived you, you dweller in the refuges of the rock [Petra, Edom's capital],
whose habitation is high, who says in his heart, Who can bring me down to the
ground?
Demonic. Pride is deceitful and
demonic! I ask my kids something I wish I could sometimes ask every believer
out there: What do you think Satan said to convince a third of the angels in
heaven to follow him? To rebel against the creature of the universe? Seriously,
how did he manage to talk them into rebelling against God? It's not
complicated. He used the same tricks he still relies on today—whispers.
Whispering lies, those half-truths, pride, or just feeding us the kind of
things we want to hear. The Bible even says in 2 Timothy 4:3, that we have
"itching ears"—we like to listen to sweet-sounding things. Demonic.
It’s wild to me how so many
Christians still buy into tarot cards, burning sage, crystals, and all sorts of
stuff, hoping it’ll somehow bring them closer to God. But honestly, all they
really need is to just get into the Word. Think about this: the Lord God created
the whole universe, before he even made us, and off course there was the word.
Just read Genesis 1 again, along with the Holy Spirit. There’s something
significant there—even before God started recreating, there was already a
backstory, and that stems from the war in heaven sparked by Lucifer’s
rebellious pride.
Genesis 1:2 says “the earth
was without form, and void—chaos characterizes the cosmos before God utters his
first command.
The first ever sin wasn’t committed
in Eden, it was committed in heaven by Lucifer as stated in Ezekiel 28:15 “You
were blameless in your ways from the day you were created until iniquity and
guilt were found in you.”
Ezekiel spells this out—not
only was Lucifer given everything, but among the three archangels (Micheal-responsible
for warfare, Gabriel-responsible for delivering messages, and Lucifer-responsible
for worship). He was the angel of worship, covered in musical instruments and
pipes—honestly, his very being was made for worship. Yet, despite all that, he
looked around and thought, “I want to be God. No, I want to be better than
God.” And he didn’t keep those thoughts to himself; his ambition led him around
heaven, whispering into the ears of the other angels: “I’m going to be better
than God. I’m going to be just like him.” Doesn’t that sound familiar? Isn’t
that exactly what he’s still doing today? He lived out those words—he let pride
in, and once pride gets a hold of you, rebellion usually isn’t far behind.
God can't stand pride and rebellion;
the Bible makes that clear. Lucifer wanted companions in his downfall, so he
convinced a chorus of angels to follow him. When God threw him out of heaven
after that war, Lucifer was out but not alone according to Revelation 12:9.
The image in Revelation
12:4-10, shows how his tail sweeps a chunk of the stars from heaven. That’s
what Satan does. He tries to drag everyone down with him. None of those angels
that listened to him were left untouched. They all fell, and now they’re
demons, lurking in the shadows, stuck for eternity and trying to get you and I
to follow them.
And he hasn't stopped using
that old pitch. He’s still whispering—telling people they don’t need God, that
they can be better, that they can just burn a bit of sage or wave a crystal
around instead of reading the Word. All those little lies, all those suggestions.
But the only truthful way to push back against this stuff is to get into the
Word. That's where the victory is. Truly, there’s no other name that saves
except Jesus. And that name? That’s the last thing Satan wants you to know, or
to say. The name of Jesus isn't just a title—it's legal, it's powerful, it
gives you authority. But you must believe it, take hold of it, and use it.
So, whatever’s going on in
your life, remember this: rebellion and pride are not just bad habits—they’re
demonic at their root. Don’t let your heart get hardened. Psalm 51:10-13 has it
right: “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.”
That’s something we need to be praying daily, letting God keep our hearts soft,
so we can keep looking up to him. Because pride gets in the way—it closes you
off from Him.
