PIDGIN THE INADEQUACY OF THE FLESH!

Filippians 3:1-17

Make una shine una eye, bikos of doz wey dey bihave like dogs and wiked pipol wey dey ponish dia body! Na wi bi di really sekonsishon; di pipol wey dey woship God thru en Spirit; pipol wey dey happy inside Christ and wi nor dey put awa hope for wetin pipol dey do. Aldo my own rizin important too. If anybody tink sey e get betta rizin to put hope for wetin human being dey do, mi Paul, get pass dem. Dem sekonsaiz mi eight days afta dem born mi. I kom from Israel, Benjamin tribe and I bi Hibru man. I bin dey live akordin to di law, bikos I bi Farisee. Bikos I really won do God work, I kon dey kause sirious wahala for di pipol wey dey di church. I do evritin just as di law sey make wi do, so dat wi go dey good for God eye. So, I nor get any fault. But all dis tins wey I si as gain, I kon kount dem to bi nor-tin bikos of Christ. Nor bi only doz ones, but naw, I dey look evritin as nor-tin, wen I kompare am with Christ, my Oga God wey I know and I trowey evritin, bikos of am. True-true, I dey look all doz tins as yeye, so dat I go fit gain Christ, kon bi one with am. My raitiousness nor kom from di law, but I dey raitious thru my faith for Christ. Bikos na thru faith God take make us dey raitious with am. Wetin I wont na to know am and di pawa wey wake Christ from deat; to sofa wetin e sofa; to bi as e bi wen e die, so dat mi too go still wake-up from deat, as e wake. Nor bi sey I don get evritin wey I wont or God don make mi pafet, but I dey try make I get di prize wey dey kom from God kon hold am as Jesus Christ whole mi. My brodas and sistas, I nor look mysef like sey I don get evritin wey I wont. Bikos I dey tink of only one tin wey bi: To forget di tins wey don pass kon dey porshu di ones wey dey front and as I put my mind for dis tins, I dey try to get di prize wey bi life for heaven; prize wey make God koll us thru en pikin, Jesus Christ. So wi wey don mature for Christ, make wi get dis kind mind. But if una dey tink difren tins, I bilive sey God go show una di trut. So, make wi kontinue to follow di rules wey wi dey follow. My brodas and sistas, make una dey live like mi and dey learn from odas wey dey follow us as ezample. '

 

Disappointment! We all don taste am. Na part of life. Disappointment dey every corner of life. Everyday person dey face disappointment, whether na natural things like rain wey no gree you move, or cold too much, heavy snow, transport no work, motor no start, children no quick wake, phone mess up, internet fail. Or anything at all fit cause am.  You no fit do wetin you plan because you no get the resources. 

Disappointment! 

No matter how e show, disappointment still be disappointment and e dey pain. But we get one person wey no dey disappoint – the Lord. 

Disappointment dey hide inside Ego! Na self-confidence wey person dash himself! Many times we dey forget say people na human beings, just like me and you, and dem dey fail. Dem fit fail even when dem no plan or intend to fail. James 3:2 say we fit stumble in many ways, but remind us say every human being fit make mistake. Na so life be! 

Flesh get plenty inadequacy, na why we suppose trust God pass people as Psalm 118:8 talk am: “E better to take refuge for inside the Lord than to put your trust for man.” This kind mindset dey shift our confidence from ourselves and from people go God, who alone dey perfectly faithful and no fit fail. Flesh go always fail! 

Jesus tell us make we put our confidence for am. Things wey dey come from the flesh dey produce death. Things of the Spirit na dem dey produce life, as Galatians 5:16 talk. 

No matter wetin we think say we know, we dey reach one stage where we go see say e no carry weight. No matter how smart we think say we be, time go reach wey we go understand say we no dey as smart or as important as we think. 

We no suppose put our confidence for ourselves. Paul understand this well-well as he talk for verse seven. Yes, dem circumcise am. Na Jew him be. Him go school. Him get level. Him be this, him be that. All the things wey him dey count then na ego and self-confidence until Jesus jam am for road to Damascus. Oh boy, that encounter change everything. Na there him realize say he suppose surrender to God and no be to him flesh. 

How you own side be? You dey live your life based on wetin your flesh dey dictate as we see for Romans 7:18? 

You be like Paul that time, dey count all the things wey you put your faith and confidence inside, wey finally dey fail and dey disappoint you? 

But when Paul begin depend on the Lord, everything change. How about you? You dey depend on God? Isaiah 64:6 talk say everything wey we dey do wey we dey proud of, for God front e be like dirty rag. 

Remember the rich man, the rich ruler for Matthew 19 wey come meet Jesus ask, “Master, wetin I go do to be saved?” Jesus begin tell am wetin to do, remind am of the Ten Commandments. The young man answer say he don keep all the law. You fit almost hear the ego for him voice: “I don keep all the laws.” But you fit really keep all the laws? No. Jesus know say e no possible. So Jesus tell am, “Okay, if na so, go sell all your property and give the money to the poor.” Oh boy, the guy no like that one at all because that one mean say make he kill flesh completely. 

The men of the law – the Pharisees, the Sadducees, all those teachers of the law – dem sabi the law, the word, and commandments, but dem not Jesus. And Jesus dey tell us say all those things go still disappoint person. As believers, our orientation suppose come from the word of God. We must trust the word of God, no be ourselves, our works, accolades, qualifications, knowledge or anything wey we get. This life go still disappoint for different angles, but Jesus no dey disappoint. So remember: Christ dey trustworthy and e fit transform your life. 

Stop to behave like person wey dey declare himself righteous. Allow the righteousness of God to become your own, make e lead you, guide you, encourage you and above all teach you to be who you suppose be. And as Paul talk for verse twelve, press on! Press on even with the pain, disappointment, tears and all the things wey you don pass through because God no go disappoint you. Forget flesh, flesh go fail and disappoint you. E no get capacity to handle spiritual things. 

Make Spirit handle spiritual things.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS 

- I don experience disappointment because I trust people or myself instead of God? How that affect me? 

- Which areas of my life dey show say I dey depend on myself instead of the Spirit of God? 

- Which “ego-driven” achievement or qualification I still dey hold tight, like Paul before he meet Christ? 

- I really believe say Jesus no dey disappoint, even when life dey disappoint? How I fit live every day to show say I believe this truth? 

PRAYER: Father, forgive me for the times wey I don wound because I put my trust for man instead of You. Heal my heart from every disappointment and remind me say You no dey fail. Help me to rest inside Your unfailing love, in Jesus’ name, amen.
