CHILD-FRIENDLY CANCEL CULTURE!
Colossians 2:13-15 GNT
You were at one time
spiritually dead because of your sins and because you were Gentiles without the
Law. But God has now brought you to life with Christ. God forgave us all our
sins; [14] he canceled the unfavorable record of our debts with its binding rules
and did away with it completely by nailing it to the cross. [15] And on that
cross Christ freed himself from the power of the spiritual rulers and
authorities; he made a public spectacle of them by leading them as captives in
his victory procession.
Cancel culture is when
people try to push someone away, silence them, or remove their influence
because they don’t like what they said or believe. This trend reflects Isaiah
5:20, where good is called evil and evil good. Many have inverted God’s
standards, silencing and condemning anyone who stands for biblical truth.
Cancel culture punishes controversial speech or behaviour through public
shaming, firing, bankrupting, and de-platforming—effectively erasing a person’s
influence and reputation.
Even in the church, some
people follow the world instead of God. Jesus said His words can offend people
(John 6:61–62), and sometimes people try to “cancel” God’s standards.
Cancel culture seeks to
expose and hold those in the public eye accountable for wrongs that they have
done, both past and present, which is not a bad thing in a way if it’s left to
such things, unfortunately, we have imported that culture to try and cancel the
one thing and person that can make a difference in life and society. God!
But before cancel culture
ever existed, Jesus cancelled the power of the enemy (Colossians 2:15). People
mocked and rejected Jesus too, just like people cancel others today.
As believers, God calls us
to live with righteousness, faith, love, and gentleness (1 Timothy 6:11). We
must speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15) and be salt and light (Matthew
5:13–16). If cancel culture targets you for your faith, remember Psalm 25:19 —
God sees and protects you.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
- How does cancel culture
make it hard to follow God’s truth
-
How can you show love even when people disagree
- What can you do to stay
“salt and light” for Jesus
PRAYER: Lord, help me follow
Jesus with courage and love. Make me strong and gentle, even when others reject
Your truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Shalom
