CHILD-FRIENDLY DIVINE SUPPLY!
2 Kings 4:1-7 GNT
The widow of a member of a
group of prophets went to Elisha and said, "Sir, my husband has died! As
you know, he was a God-fearing man, but now a man he owed money to has come to
take away my two sons as slaves in payment for my husband's debt." [2]
"What shall I do for you?" he asked. "Tell me, what do you have
at home?" "Nothing at all, except a small jar of olive oil," she
answered. [3] "Go to your neighbors and borrow as many empty jars as you
can," Elisha told her. [4] "Then you and your sons go into the house,
close the door, and start pouring oil into the jars. Set each one aside as soon
as it is full." [5] So the woman went into her house with her sons, closed
the door, took the small jar of olive oil, and poured oil into the jars as her
sons brought them to her. [6] When they had filled all the jars, she asked if
there were any more. "That was the last one," one of her sons
answered. And the olive oil stopped flowing. [7] She went back to Elisha, the
prophet, who said to her, "Sell the olive oil and pay all your debts, and
there will be enough money left over for you and your sons to live on."
2 Chronicles 29:12 teaches
that wealth and riches come from God. People sometimes act as if they control
everything on earth, but God is the One who created all things and continues to
care for His world. His supply never runs out.
God can give us what we
need, and He can also multiply it. This widow had only a small jar of oil. It
didn’t seem like much, but it was the “asset” God needed. God often works with
what we already have.
This reminds us of the jar
of flour in 1 Kings 17 and of God asking Moses, “What is in your hand?” in
Exodus 4:2. Moses’ staff became a tool God used. The widow’s oil became a
miracle. God can use anything He has placed in our lives.
Oil was useful in God’s
hands to change the widow’s life. She went from having nothing to having more
than enough.
Elisha told her to borrow
empty jars from her neighbours. This shows that sometimes God uses people
around us to help us grow. We should not be too proud to receive help, because
others are blessed when they bless us.
The miracle still required
the widow’s obedience. She had to pour the oil, gather the jars, and trust God.
When we obey God, He multiplies what we have.
What is your asset today? It
may seem small, but God can use it in powerful ways. Ask Him to show you what
He has placed in your hands.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
• What asset has God given
me, and am I using it well
• Who has God placed around
me to help me grow
• What step of obedience do
I need to take today
PRAYER: Thank You, God, for
being the One who multiplies what I have. Help me use my assets with faith and
obedience so You can increase them. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Shalom
