CHILD-FRIENDLY THE EMPTY GIANT!
1 Samuel 17:4-11,45 GNT
A man named Goliath, from
the city of Gath, came out from the Philistine camp to challenge the
Israelites. He was over nine feet tall [5] and wore bronze armor that weighed
about 125 pounds and a bronze helmet. [6] His legs were also protected by
bronze armor, and he carried a bronze javelin slung over his shoulder. [7] His
spear was as thick as the bar on a weaver's loom, and its iron head weighed
about fifteen pounds. A soldier walked in front of him carrying his shield. [8]
Goliath stood and shouted at the Israelites, "What are you doing there,
lined up for battle? I am a Philistine, you slaves of Saul! Choose one of your
men to fight me. [9] If he wins and kills me, we will be your slaves; but if I
win and kill him, you will be our slaves. [10] Here and now I challenge the
Israelite army. I dare you to pick someone to fight me!" [11] When Saul
and his men heard this, they were terrified. [45] David answered, "You are
coming against me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come against you in the
name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the Israelite armies, which you have
defied.
Goliath was huge and strong.
He wore heavy armour and had big weapons. Everyone was afraid of him! But
Goliath was an empty giant. Why? Because he did not have God on his side. Size
and strength mean nothing when God is not with you.
What Does Empty Giant Mean?
An empty giant is something
that looks big and scary but has no real power against God. It could be fear,
sickness, or a big problem. It looks strong, but it is empty because God is
stronger than anything.
David was small and had no armour,
but he had something Goliath didn’t—God’s help. David said:
“You come against me with
sword and spear, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty” (1
Samuel 17:45).
David trusted God, and
that’s why the giant fell.
· Don’t
fear empty giants. Problems may look big, but they cannot beat God.
· Trust
God’s strength, not your own. God gives victory.
· Speak
faith, not fear. David spoke about God’s power before he fought.
Memory Verse: Romans 8:31 –
“If God is for us, who can be against us?”
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
1. What big problem in my life looks scary but
is empty without God?
2. Do I trust God more than my own strength?
3. How can I speak faith like David when I face
challenges?
PRAYER: Lord, thank You that
no giant can stand against You. Help me to trust You and not be afraid. Teach
me to speak faith and believe in Your power every day. Amen.
Shalom!
