CHILD-FRIENDLY THE WAY OF THE WILDERNESS!
Exodus 13:17-18 GNT
When the king of Egypt let
the people go, God did not take them by the road that goes up the coast to
Philistia, although it was the shortest way. God thought, "I do not want
the people to change their minds and return to Egypt when they see that they
are going to have to fight." [18] Instead, he led them in a roundabout way
through the desert toward the Red Sea. The Israelites were armed for battle.
Have you ever been on a long
trip that felt like it would never end? Maybe you were tired, hungry, or
wishing you could go back home. That is a little like what the Bible calls the
wilderness.
Sometimes we go through
moments that feel hard or confusing. Maybe things at school, home, or with
friends don’t make sense. Maybe you feel sad or alone. That is what a
“wilderness experience” feels like.
What Is the Wilderness?
The wilderness is a place
where:
·
Things feel difficult
·
We don’t always know what to do
·
We might feel alone
·
We have to trust God more
The Israelites were in the
wilderness for forty years, but God never left them.
Why Did God Take Them the
Longer Way?
God could have led the
Israelites on a short, easy road. But He knew that road had dangers they were
not ready for. So He chose a longer, safer path because He loved them.
Sometimes God lets us go
through tough moments too. Not to harm us, but to help us grow. He is:
·
Training us
·
Making us stronger
·
Teaching us to trust Him
·
Preparing us for something great
God’s way is always the best
way, even when it goes through the wilderness.
God’s Promise in Psalm 23:4
that even if we walk through dark or difficult places, God is with us. We are
never alone.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
1. Have you ever gone through a hard time that
felt like a wilderness? What happened, and how did it feel?
2. What do you think God was teaching you during
that time—patience, courage, kindness, or trusting Him more?
3. Can you remember a time when God helped you
grow stronger after something difficult?
PRAYER: Father, help me to
trust You and depend on You, even when life feels like a wilderness. Lead me,
guide me, and remind me that You are always with me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Shalom.
