CONFESSION!
Psalm 141:3 Voice
Guard my mouth, O Eternal
One; control what I say. Keep a careful watch on every word I speak.
Have you ever said something
and immediately wished you could take it back? Proverbs 18:21 explains how our
words carry power of life and death. Many times, we speak impulsively, driven
by emotions or circumstances, rather than by faith. This year, God is calling
us to align our confession with His Word.
Confession is not just
positive thinking; it is declaring what God has said. Won't it be nice if we
can stop ourselves saying the wrong things when we need to speak? We are all
impulsive at the best of times. Our words can either build or destroy. James
1:19 warns us to be slow to speak because words have consequences.
But why do lots of us just
open our mouth and, wow, everything comes out? I call it mouth diarrhea. You
can't control your mouth. You say things just because you feel like saying it.
Sometimes it sounds good in our head. It sounds nice to say it, but is what you
are confessing aligned with the word of God?
Revelation 12:11 shows that
victory comes through the blood of Jesus and the word of our testimony. This is
a confession! In this new year, we've got to learn to confess the word and not
feeling, emotions, circumstances, or evil reports. Our words shape our
reality—what we confess consistently becomes what we experience.
But how do you confess the
word if you don't know the word? You must know the Word! You cannot confess
what you do not know. Romans 10:17 reminds us that faith comes by hearing the
Word. You've got to let the word of God settle in your spirit. That means
constantly hearing the word of God so we can constantly speak the word of God.
Confession! We confess
things according to how we feel Our emotion, our mindset, the circumstances,
the environment, everything but God pushes our confession. We confess the
things that God hasn't said about us. When we're meant to be aligning our
confession with the written word, what has God said about you?
Meditate on the Word! Let it
settle in your spirit, so it becomes your default response.
Speak Life! Replace
negative, fear-driven words with faith-filled declarations.
If you don’t speak, other or
circumstances will speak for you. Job 22:28 is written so we know that out
words not only have power and authority, but they are also judicial as well as
spiritual.
We must ask Holy Spirit for
a guard to be stationed at our mouth to prevent the escape of any wrong and
impulsive word, to keep the door of our lips from speech that would not be honouring
to the Lord.
It’s all too easy and
natural to say exactly what pops into our minds and mouth but “SELAH,” pause
for a moment before uttering those words that might make an enormous difference
in your life. Let scriptural confession be a daily practise for us.
Confession = Agreement (with
God about sin or truth)
Confession = Declaration (of
faith in Christ)
Confession = Praise
(acknowledging God’s goodness)
These are all important and
necessary to not just spiritual growth but to life and death.
We must be like brother Job
in Job 3:25, confessing that the thing he greatly feared has come upon him. This
reflects a deep sense of dread and the reality of fear manifesting in life.
Fear can be powerful because it often influences our thoughts, words, and
actions—sometimes even shaping outcomes when we dwell on it.
But we must, replace fear
with faith. Instead of confessing fear, speak life and truth: “God has not
given me a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind” (2 Timothy
1:7) and “No weapon formed against me shall prosper” (Isaiah 54:17).
I want to encourage you in
this new year to say only what God says about you, guard your mouth-ask the
Holy Spirit to set a guard over your lips so that fear-driven words don’t
escape, instead let your confession be godly. Let it be life. Let it be divine.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
-
How can you intentionally align your speech
with Scripture rather than temporary emotions?
-
If confession flows from knowledge of God’s

PRAYER: Heavenly Father,
thank You for the power of Your Word and the authority You’ve given me through
Christ. I choose to align my confession with Your truth. Guard my lips, Lord,
so that fear, doubt, and negativity do not escape. Fill my heart with faith and
my mouth with life-giving words in Jesus’ name, Amen.
