FLOW WITH GOD’S CURRENT, NOT LISTENING TO THE WIND!

John 3:8 TLB

Just as you can hear the wind but can't tell where it comes from or where it will go next, so it is with the Spirit. We do not know on whom he will next bestow this life from heaven."

We are always tempted to, influenced by and pressured to go with the flow, even when it’s not meant for us. We want to just sometimes listen to the reasons, (reasonable and unreasonable alike) and do what is in the wind rather than going in God’s current.

God’s current represents His will, direction, and timing, the path He wants us to follow. While the wind represents distractions, fears, doubts, and voices of the world that try to pull us off course.

So, this means to stay aligned with God’s guidance and trust His leading, even when circumstances or opinions around you seem strong and noisy.

We all had plans last year, plans that needed labour and time but we listened to the wind and ended up with nothing.

Ecclesiastes 11:4 puts it this way, “Anyone who watches the wind will fail to sow, and he who observes the clouds will fail to reap.” While Proverbs 26:13 says “Why don't lazy people ever get out of the house? What are they afraid of Lions? Yea, why?

We have listened to and allowed all kinds of wind to push us out of God’s alignment but it’s high time to return and flow with God’s current.

Our text shows that those led by the Spirit move according to God’s flow, not human reasoning.

Flowing with God’s current means being steadily led by the Holy Spirit and God’s Word, instead of being blown around by changing circumstances, emotions, or opinions. Scripture contrasts the Spirit’s steady leading with every wind that tosses believers about.

Ephesians 4:14 says immature believers are tossed to and fro and blown about by every wind of doctrine, like a small boat at the mercy of waves and wind. This is a picture of listening to every voice and trend instead of God

Isaiah 30:21 encourages to listen to the Lord saying, “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’” God gives clear direction—our job is to follow His current and not allow any other wind to determine where we go.

The wind that misleads can be false teaching, unstable emotions, or worldly desires that shift constantly and leave believers spiritually dizzy. Listening to such winds produces confusion and instability.

The Holy Spirit is also likened to wind, but His wind brings power, change, and direction that enable believers to do what they could not do on their own. Flowing with this divine wind is aligning with God’s power, not being scattered by worldly gusts.

But to make sure we don’t listen to these winds, we must as Hebrews 12:2 says, “Fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith…”  and don’t be distracted by the wind (circumstances); keep your focus on Christ.

It’s only when we remain focused on the Lord and determinedly as Isaiah 50:7 instructs, do we remain grounded during the fiercest wind. We see Peter exemplify this in Matthew 14:30-31 “But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’ Immediately Jesus reached out his hand…”

He walked on water when he focused on Jesus but sank when he listened to the wind.

Be led by the Spirit, not the wind! Romans 8:14 speaks of those who “live in accordance with the Spirit” and are “led by the Spirit of God,” showing a continuous inner guidance rather than outer pressure. God’s will become an inward principle written on the heart, not just external rules.

To “walk by the Spirit” is to live under His momentbymoment direction, on the flow of spiritual current which keeps believers from carrying out the desires of the flesh or following the pull of the world.

Be determined to flow with God’s current, not listen to the wind.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

-        How can I listen to God’s voice instead of other voices around me?

-        What things in my life distract me from following God’s way?

-        How can I keep my eyes on Jesus every day, even when things feel hard?

PRAYER: Lord, help me to follow Your way and not be distracted by other voices. Teach me to listen to You and trust Your plan every day. Keep my eyes on Jesus always. Amen.
