JESUS POWER!

Matthew 10:1-15 TLB

Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to cast out evil spirits and to heal every kind of sickness and disease. [2-4] Here are the names of his twelve disciples: Simon (also called Peter), Andrew (Peter's brother), James (Zebedee's son), John (James's brother), Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew (the tax collector), James (Alphaeus's son), Thaddaeus, Simon (a member of "The Zealots," a subversive political party), Judas Iscariot (the one who betrayed him). [5] Jesus sent them out with these instructions: "Don't go to the Gentiles or the Samaritans, [6] but only to the people of Israel-God's lost sheep. [7] Go and announce to them that the Kingdom of Heaven is near. [8] Heal the sick, raise the dead, cure the lepers, and cast out demons. Give as freely as you have received! [9] "Don't take any money with you; [10] don't even carry a duffle bag with extra clothes and shoes, or even a walking stick; for those you help should feed and care for you. [11] Whenever you enter a city or village, search for a godly man and stay in his home until you leave for the next town. [12] When you ask permission to stay, be friendly, [13] and if it turns out to be a godly home, give it your blessing; if not, keep the blessing. [14] Any city or home that doesn't welcome you-shake off the dust of that place from your feet as you leave. [15] Truly, the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah will be better off at Judgment Day than they.

“Jesus power, superpower, and other powers, powerless power” was a popular song many of us heard while growing up. Even though it was simple, it carried deep truth. It echoed Scripture itself. Matthew 10:1 tells us, “And Jesus called His twelve disciples to Him and gave them power and authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every kind of disease and sickness.” The power was not human. It was not learned. It was given—pure, holy, divine power from Jesus Christ Himself.

What more can we say about Jesus’ power? He gave it to His disciples, and through His Word and Spirit, He gives it to us today. Every believer, whether a church member, a pastor, a leader, or a child of God walking in faith, carries access to this same power. It was given for a purpose: to do Kingdom work with effectiveness, confidence, and victory.

Yet many Christians today are still searching for “more power,” wandering into places that God never endorsed, connecting with voices God never sent, and dabbling in practices that do not align with Scripture. But if Jesus has already given you power, what other power could you possibly need or be looking for? No power outside Him can add anything to what He gives.

There are many supernatural powers in the world, and some come from dark sources. They may look real, feel spiritual, and impress crowds, but if they do not come from God, they are demonic. This is why Simon the Sorcerer in Acts 8:9–24 deceived so many. The people thought he carried the power of God because he performed wonders, but Scripture reveals he was using sorcery. They were bewitched by counterfeit power.

Every other power is powerless power compared to Jesus Christ.

There are religions and belief systems that display supernatural signs, but unless the power is from God, it cannot save, cannot heal the soul, cannot deliver eternally, and cannot stand against Jesus’ authority. True power belongs to Jesus alone.

The Christian faith is not about talk. It is about power, as 1 Corinthians 4:20 says. The Kingdom of God is demonstrated through the moral power, spiritual authority, and transformed life that flows only from Christ. Nothing created can ever rise above the Creator. No spirit, no ritual, no charm, no force, and no human invention can match the power of Jesus.

Jesus gives His power purposefully. He gives it to those who will use it wisely and represent Him faithfully. But where does true power begin? It begins with understanding 2 Corinthians 3:5, which tells us that our sufficiency is not in ourselves. Our ability, strength, boldness, and power come from God alone.

There is no superpower that will turn anyone into a superhuman. There are no shortcuts outside Jesus. Real, lasting, holy power has one source—Christ alone. No matter how high one desires to rise in life or ministry, dependence on God is nonnegotiable. Only God raises, lifts, and sustains by His power, as 1 Corinthians 6:14 declares.

Jesus Himself said in Matthew 28:18, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.” That means any power found anywhere else is either given by Him or opposed to Him. True, godly power flows from the throne of God. Counterfeits exist, but none of them can overcome Christ.

God equips His people with spiritual armour—truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and prayer. With these, we can stand firm against Satan’s schemes. God not only equips but trains, strengthens, and prepares us for His work by His power. He gives us everything we need to overcome, resist, and advance.

Power flows from relationship. Power comes from remaining connected to Jesus. A disconnected believer becomes spiritually weak, empty, and vulnerable. If your spiritual fruitfulness is low, if your fire is dim, or if your walk feels powerless, it is time to examine the source you are drawing from. No one can operate in God’s power without staying close to Jesus.

True spiritual authority comes from intimacy, obedience, submission, and fellowship with Christ. When we remain in Him, His power flows through us freely, boldly, and effectively.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

-       Am I using the power Jesus already gave me, or am I searching for strength in the wrong places?

-       Do I recognize the difference between God’s power and deceptive spiritual displays?

-       Am I staying connected to Jesus so His power can flow through me daily?

PRAYER: Father, help me to remain grounded in You while walking in the power You have already given me. Keep my heart from seeking strength elsewhere. Teach me to operate in Your authority and stay connected to the true source of all power. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
