LEGITIMATE TRANSACTION!
Proverbs 11:1 AMPC
A false balance and
unrighteous dealings are extremely offensive and shamefully sinful to the Lord,
but a just weight is His delight.
The words legitimate
transactions, is not necessarily in the bible but touches every aspect of our
daily lives. Whether you are buying, selling, signing contracts, or even paying
bills, God cares about how we conduct these dealings. The Bible is clear:
dishonesty in business is not just bad ethics—it is sin before God.
In a world where corruption,
fraud, and exploitation are common, Christians are called to stand out as
people of integrity. Our transactions should reflect the character of Christ
and the values of the Kingdom.
In yester years, a handshake
was enough to seal a contrate for years and beyond generations but today, even
with stamp, signatures and evidence, there is still fraud and explorations.
God demands honesty in all dealings!
He is a shrewd businessman as seen in Leviticus 19:35-36, because the Lord
would never tell us to do something He knows nothing about, and He knows all
things.
God hates dishonesty. A
false balance—cheating in weights, measures, or pricing—is an abomination to
Him. In ancient times, merchants used scales to measure goods. Some would
tamper with the weights to cheat customers. Today, dishonesty shows up in false
advertising, inflated invoices, and hidden charges.
How about you or someone you
know, do you play with figures or representations? We mustn’t not manipulate
figures to gain unfair advantage but be truthful in our pricing and contracts.
Imagine buying a product labelled
“100% pure” only to find it diluted. That is a false balance—and God detests
it. But that’s what society is all about today, sadly, including the church-using
misrepresentation or false presentation for legitimate transactions.
One look at the supermarket shelves
will convince us that transactions today are anything but fair, rather they are
trick and manipulations used to line the pockets of business while the consumers
are left with little or no value for their money.
Romans 13:7 says to “Pay to
all what is owed to them…” This includes taxes, bills, salaries, and agreed
payments. When you sign a contract or borrow money, you have a moral and
spiritual obligation to honour that agreement. Just as the customer is entitled
to what they paid for as advertised by you.
Now, the church has joined
in on this system. They treat the Lord’s work and kingdom like their personal business.
Charging God’s people for things that already belong to them paid by Christ. The
Bible calls these "hireling" people who are paid to work and are
often motivated by self-interest rather than genuine care for the task or the
people they serve.
We all kinds of skills and
talents within the church but the church would either get someone outside and
pay them big or use those within the church and pay they little or nothing. Yet,
1 Timothy 5:18 emphasizing the importance of fair compensation for labour.
James 5:4 further says if
you hire someone for a job, pay them promptly. Delayed wages cry out to God.
Legitimate transactions must
involve working for honest or at least fair gains.
Ephesians 4:28 says “Let the
thief no longer steal but rather let him labour…” God blesses honest work.
Fraud, shortcuts, and illegal deals may seem profitable, but they bring curses,
not blessings. Earn through diligence, not deception.
Transactions should reflect kingdom
values as Colossians 3:23 puts it, “Whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the
Lord…” Every transaction should glorify God. Before signing any deal, ask:
Would Jesus approve of this?
Pray before entering
contracts.
Let your integrity be your
testimony.
Importantly, we must treat
others fairly as Matthew 7:12 “Do unto others as you would have them do unto
you.” Would you want someone to cheat you? Then do not cheat others. The Golden
Rule applies to business as well.
We must always, where necessary
be transparent in our dealings and not exploit the poor or vulnerable.
Legitimate transactions are
not just about business—they are about worship. When we deal honestly, we honour
God. When we cheat, we dishonour Him. Let us commit to integrity in all our
dealings.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
-
In what ways do my daily transactions—whether
in business, ministry, or personal life—reflect the integrity and honesty that
God requires?
-
Have I ever justified dishonesty or
manipulation in contracts, pricing, or agreements? How can I realign my
practices to glorify God in every deal?
-
Do I treat others fairly in financial
matters, including paying wages promptly and honouring commitments? What
changes can I make to ensure my dealings reflect Kingdom values?
