Cancel culture don turn one of di most powerful tools wey society dey use today, especially for social media. Na di way people dey take withdraw support from person or organisation because dem believe say di person talk or do something wey offend others. Once di masses, influencers or political groups no like wetin you talk, dem go join head to silence you, boycott you, or even remove you from platform. Our society don dey run exactly like wetin Isaiah 5:20 talk, as nations and influencers don dey turn God standard of wetin right and wrong upside down — dem dey silence, condemn and cancel anybody wey stand for biblical truth.

Cancel culture na di modern idea say any speech or behaviour wey won people to feel say controversial issue must collect punishment through public shame, silencing, boycott, sack, bankrupt, or de-platform. At di end, di person name, power and reputation go just wipe comot — “cancelled out.”

E clear say this kind attitude reflect wetin Isaiah 5:20 talk — where dem dey call good evil and evil good. Many don turn God standard upside down; dem dey shut down and condemn anybody wey stand for di truth of di Bible. Cancel culture dey punish people through shaming, sacking, and de-platforming — e dey erase person presence and influence.

Na pity say this same spirit don enter church. Some clergy don begin follow worldly system wey dey against God’s truth. But di Bible don tell us say God’s Word dey offend sinful nature (John 6:61–62). People no wan hear truth because dem wan live anyhow, and when God’s Word dey confront dem lifestyle, dem go try “cancel” God and Him standard.

But before cancel culture even start, Christ don already cancel di enemy power and make public show of am for Colossians 2:15. Funny enough, wetin dem do Jesus — mocking, rejection and silencing — na di same wetin people now dey do to one another. Make we remember say criticism on social media no be cancel culture until e begin try remove person totally. You dey risk cancellation when people dey shout make dem fire you, block you, or stop your business just because of your faith, belief, or opinion — especially when e involve Christian belief.

As Believers, we suppose pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness according to 1 Timothy 6:11. We must use our mouth well for this kind time wey cancel culture full ground.

Cancel culture dey try expose wrongs wey people don do before or recently — that one no bad on its own if na only justice we dey look for. But di problem be say we don carry this culture reach where we dey try cancel even God Himself — di one Person wey fit change life and society for better. The Bible tell us make we seek justice and judge fairly, whether na poor or rich. But cancel culture don gain name say e dey harsh, e no dey forgive — and Bible don warn us against that kind behaviour.

As believers, we suppose pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness (1 Timothy 6:11). Make we speak truth with love as Ephesians 4:15 talk and no join di merciless crowd wey Scripture warn us about. Christ don already cancel all di accusations wey dey against us and disarm di powers of darkness so dat we fit live like salt and light (Matthew 5:13–16). If cancel culture dey target you because of your faith, remember wetin David talk: “See how many enemies I get and how dem hate me with strong hatred” (Psalm 25:19). Stand strong, pray for God protection, and continue to share Him Word.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to embrace Christ-centred way wey go transform culture instead of make me fear am. Make I stand strong for truth and love, no matter cancel culture. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
