PIDGIN COMMUNITY VENTURE!

Genesis 26:12–16

Isaak harvest plenty well-well and e rish hundred times of wetin e plant dat same year, bikos God don bless am. 13Isaak kon rish well-well. E dey prosper more-more until evribody know am. 14E get many sheep and kattle and en savant many well-well, so Filistia pipol kon dey jealous am. 15So Filistia pipol karry san-san kon kover all di well wey Isaak papa savants, dig for di time wey Abraham dey der.

16Den Abimelek kon tell Isaak, “Make yu komot from here go anoda place, bikos di pawa wey yu get, don strong pass awa own.”

Community venture, whether spiritual, business, or social one, dey ever start for comfort zone. Dem dey come from tension — between God promise and human wahala, between blessing and insecurity. This na clear picture of Isaac life. E prosper for land wey no be him own but still face opposition from people wey dey fear him progress.

Verse 12 talk am well well: “Isaac sow for that land and reap for the same year hundredfold; the Lord bless am.” Isaac success no just happen like that. E sow; e mean say e take initiative, work the land, invest for place wey no originally be him own. How about you? You dey do the same for your own community?

Community venture dey start like that — when person get heart to sow where God put them, even when the soil no too familiar or things no clear.

Isaac harvest na extra ordinary one, but no be only farm crop. E show say when God favour person effort, everything go flourish well. For community work, we don see this pattern many times: one small act of obedience fit produce result wey pass expectation. One single mother fit start support group for her parlour, before one year, e don turn network of healing for plenty women. One church fit start food pantry, and e go grow make e become hope centre for families. Dem sow, and God multiply am.

Blessing dey attract attention, but not always the kind we like. Verse 14 talk say, “The Philistines envy am.” Envy na one big enemy of community venture. E dey happen when people see your growth but dem no understand the hard work, sacrifice, or God favour behind am. Instead make dem celebrate, dem resist. Instead make dem join hand, dem oppose.

The Philistines block the wells wey Abraham servants don dig before (verse 15). Wells mean life, provision, and continuity. For our own time, “wells” fit mean systems, relationships, or resources wey dey sustain the vision. Opposition dey come when these wells get blocked — support go cut, discouragement go spread, wahala go rise, energy go dry.

But see Isaac reaction: him no fight back, him no curse dem, him no give up. Instead, him move forward go dig new wells. This na true spirit of community builder — resilience without bitterness, persistence without vex, hope wey no dey naive.

Abimelech finally say, “Go from us, you don big pass us” for verse 16, e clear say Isaac power no dey for crowd or weapon but for God presence and him obedience. Sometimes, our community venture go big pass the first space wey e start. Sometimes, God go use small wahala push us go new area where vision go for expand.

Isaac continue him journey. He dig the well of Esek (contention), then Sitnah (hostility), and finally Rehoboth, wey him talk say, “Now the Lord don make room for us, and we go flourish for the land.”

Every community venture dey pass through these same stages — contention, hostility, then spaciousness. The main thing be say: no stop to dig.

Throughout Bible, God dey honour people wey dey build for the good of others. Joseph manage resources save nations (Genesis 41). Nehemiah join people rebuild wall despite enemies (Nehemiah 4). The early church share everything so that “nobody go lack” (Acts 4:34). Community ventures full Bible — as proof of God heart for flourishing, justice, and togetherness.

Today, the call still remain the same. Whether you dey start ministry for single mothers, safe space for children, business wey lift families, or neighbourhood support, Genesis 26 principle still sure: Sow faithfully where God put you.  Expect blessing — not because of your power, but because of God favour.  Prepare for opposition; sometimes resistance mean say you dey grow. Continue to dig new wells, even when old ones don block. And trust God to give you Rehoboth— the spacious place of peace and fruitfulness.

Community ventures dey thrive when we mix Isaac diligence with God promise. And like Isaac, we go find say when God dey with us, no opposition fit stop the living water wey want flow for our community.

REFLECTION QUESTION

- Where God dey call you to “sow” this season, even when things look strange or uncertain?

- Which “wells” for your life or community don block because of envy, wahala, or discouragement — and how God dey tell you make you dig new ones?

- You dey see sign say God dey move you go your “Rehoboth” — place of expansion? How you fit embrace am with faith?

PRAYER: Papa God, thank You for the promise of blessing anywhere You plant us. Give us courage to sow faithfully, strength to face resistance, and grace to keep digging new wells. Carry us go our Rehoboth — the land of peace, fruitfulness, and divine increase. Make every community venture we dey handle bring You glory, through Christ our Lord, amen.
