PIDGIN MUCH FORGIVENESS, MUCH LOVE!
Luke 7:36–50
“ One Farisee kon invite
Jesus kom chop for en house, so Jesus enter di Farisee house kon sidan. 37Den,
wen one woman from dat town wey bi sina hear sey Jesus dey chop for di Farisee
house, e kon bring one fine oil bottol, wey dey send well-well, kom. 38E knee
down for Jesus front dey kry and e kon dey wet Jesus leg with di tears from en
eye. E klean Jesus leg with en hair kon kiss dem, den e pour di oil put.
39Wen di Farisee wey invite
Jesus si wetin dey happen, e kon tok for en mind sey, “If dis man na profet
true-true, e for know sey dis woman wey dey tosh am so, na sina e bi.”
40Jesus kon tell di Farisee,
“Simon, e get wetin I won tell yu.”
Simon kon sey, “Tisha, I dey
listin.”
41“E get one man wey get two savant wey dey owe am money,
one dey hold am 5,000 and di oda one, five hundred. 42Wen two of dem nor fit
pay di money back, e kon sey make dem forget about di money. Afta dat, wish of
dem go like di man pass?”
43Simon ansa, “Na di one wey
en money big pass.”
Jesus kon tell am, “Wetin yu
tok, korrect.”
44Den Jesus look di woman
kon ask Simon, “Yu dey si dis woman? I enter yor house, yu nor give mi wota
wosh leg, but di woman don wosh my leg with en tears kon take en hair klean am.
45Wen I enter yor house, yu nor kiss or greet mi as awa tradishon bi, but since
I enter, dis woman neva stop to kiss my leg. 46Yu nor pour oil for my head, but
dis woman don anoint my leg with oil wey dey send well-well. 47Make I tell yu,
I don forgive dis woman en many sins, so en love don big well-well, but di
pesin wey dem forgive small sin, en love go small.”
48Den Jesus tell di woman,
“I forgive yu all yor sins.”
49But di pipol wey sidan dey
chop with Jesus kon dey tell each oda, “Who bi dis man wey dey forgive sin?”
50So, Jesus tell di woman,
“Yor faith don save yu; make peace follow yu go.”
This Bible story fit carry
plenty names — e fit be “the forgiven woman,” “the sinful woman,” “the woman
wey repent extravagantly,” or anyone of them. But no matter how we call am,
this woman remain special — though her name no show, she be the only one for
Bible wey show gratitude to Jesus in such costly way.
If you don ever receive gift
wey you feel say you no deserve, you go understand the kind emotion wey this
woman get — that feeling of not being worthy. Sometimes, such love dey even
make person wan reject the gift because e too expensive or because of who give
am.
God dey bless us every
single day, but many of us dey like the nine lepers for Luke 17 wey no come
back to say “thank You.” Yet, this “sinful woman” wey no even fit afford
anything special come back — not just with mouth of gratitude, but with
something costly, to show real appreciation. You don ever receive something wey
you feel say you no deserve? How you take handle am?
This woman recognize mercy,
and her heart full of gratitude. She humble herself, use her tears wash Jesus’
feet, kiss am, and wipe am with her hair.
Romans 3:10–23 remind us say
all of us be sinners. We don all do things we no proud of, things we no want
others to ever know. Bible say, “No righteous person, no, not one... becos all don
sin and fall short of God glory.” Since sin dey our story, we all need
forgiveness — and we go only find that forgiveness in Jesus.
From the beginning of this
chapter, Jesus show say He no dey bound by human rule or class. He break social
barrier (v.1–10), economic barrier (v.11–17), religious barrier (v.24–35), and
moral barrier (v.36–50). What a joy to serve a Savior wey no dey look person
face, but dey ready to help anybody, no matter who dem be.
Simon, the Pharisee, invite
Jesus for dinner. As dem dey eat, one woman enter the room quietly, kneel down for
Jesus’ feet begin cry. Her tears wet Jesus’ feet, she use her hair dry am, then
pour costly perfume on Him. That one no be small thing — she worship Jesus with
her tears, her hair, and her treasure. But Simon, the host, just sit down look.
He no even do anything special for Jesus — no wash, no oil, no kiss of welcome,
nothing. He just sit down dey judge both Jesus and the woman.
We too dey do the same today
— we dey watch others as dem serve God, instead of joining in gratitude.
Sometimes we even dey think like Simon: “If truly this person be prophet, He
for know say this woman be sinner, He no for even allow her touch am.”
But Jesus know exactly who
the woman be. He know her sins, her tears, and her heart — just like He know
you and me today. He also know Simon thoughts. Make we no deceive ourselves,
say because we get religion or title, we better pass others. Bible say some of
us wey dey claim Christian dey still live worse than unbelievers.
No matter who you be or
wetin you don do, Jesus still dey wait for you make you recognize your worth
and His love. Like that woman, come show gratitude. Her gift — even though
people laugh am say e too costly — na real expression of love. Wetin you fit
offer to Jesus today for saving you? Your tears? E go accept am. Your hair,
your praise, your worship? Beautiful. But above all, na your heart Him want.
Proverbs 23:26 talk am clear: “My son, give me your heart.” You ready?
