PIDGIN THE WAY OF THE WILDERNESS!

Exodus 13:17–18

“ Wen Fero free di pipol, God nor take dem pass Filistia pipol land even doh, na dat side near pass, bikos God sey, “Make di pipol nor go shange dia mind wen dem si war kon sey, ‘Wi won go back to Egypt.’ ” 18So God lead di pipol pass di wildaness wey face di Red Sea. And Israel pipol prepare demsef for war as dem dey komot from Egypt.

You ever waka for road wey e be like say the journey no go ever end? E be like wilderness, because you no fit see road clearly again. Sometimes e go even look like say God don forget you or abandon you.

The way of the wilderness na desert experience, where believer dey struggle to survive every day. Financial, physical, emotional, or even spiritual pressure fit dey heavy for body, and the flesh go dey beg for relief. But na the time to wait on the Lord be that.

The way of wilderness na times of difficulty and trial. Pleasant things fit no dey, or even if dem dey, joy no dey to enjoy am. Sometimes e go be like say encouragement don finish. That kind “wilderness experience” dey full of temptation and spiritual battle. E fit involve dryness—spiritually, emotionally, or even financially.

The Israelites wander for wilderness for forty years. Wilderness na stage of confusion and disorder. You don ever pass through that kind season before—or maybe you dey inside am now? The big question be, how you take handle am?

God don give us plenty promises inside Bible say He go always dey with us and defend us, even when we dey inside the wilderness. Psalm 23:4 talk am clearly.

Our text talk say God lead the Israelites by “the way of the wilderness”. God sabi everything! He know say if He carry dem pass the short road near the sea, wahala go meet dem there. So God, for Him wisdom, choose better route for dem—even though e long well-well.

God dey always use testing and training season to prepare us for where He dey carry us go. The way of the wilderness na God’s training school, wey He take groom Him children. So, wilderness season no mean say person offend God or dey sin; most times, na God-ordained testing period e be.

All of us like shortcut, abi, but God no dey always choose that route because some things wey we go see for shortcut fit make our heart change from following God, just like Israel people for wilderness.

The wilderness way fit long pass wetin we imagine, or pass the strength wey we think say we get. Israel people self, begin think to go back to Egypt when the road too hard for them. Maybe you self dey that kind point now, and you dey think to go back to your old ways—your own Egypt. But God dey practical, He dey deal with each of us personally, according to who we be. He go always lead us on the route wey go fit build us well.

The short road fit lead to problem, but the long road wey God choose na the one wey go teach us character, discipline, skills, resilience, faith, and patience wey we need for the race of life. God way always dey best, even when e carry us pass wilderness.

God no dey allow us pass wilderness for nothing, sha. He always get better destination for mind. For Israel, na Mount Sinai — the mountaintop experience after the wilderness journey. Naturally, we no like wilderness, we prefer soft life and comfort. But the same God wey create the garden also create the wilderness. Trial times must come. Faith go still face fire. But the same God of grace go still meet us inside the desert.
