PREPARE YOURSELF!
Joshua 3:5 AMPC
And Joshua said to the
people, Sanctify yourselves [that is, separate yourselves for a special holy
purpose], for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you.
Everything in life requires
preparation. If we don’t prepare, it means we plan t fail. Preparation is
simply making something or someone ready ahead of time for a purpose, event, or
use. In a biblical sense, it is both practical readiness and spiritual
readiness before God.
Spiritually, preparation is
bringing your life, heart, and actions into a state where you are ready to meet
God, obey Him, and walk in what He has planned.
Before the Israelites
crossed the Jordan River into the Promised Land, Joshua gave them a clear
instruction: “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing
things among you”. Preparation was key to experiencing God’s miracle.
Are you prepared for the
year ahead? For the assignment the Lord will ask of you? Of impacting your
world for the Lord? Are you prepared to dive deeper into the word, to know the
Lord better than last year, to hear Him clearer and more?
If you want 2026 to be
better than the previous year, then you ought to be ready to put in the time
and effort in making it possible with the help of the Lord.
What does it mean to prepare
yourself?
To prepare yourself means to
set your heart, mind, and life in order for what God wants to do. It’s not just
about physical readiness—it’s spiritual. God’s blessings often require
obedience and preparation.
God often called His people
to prepare themselves before He acted or appeared, which involved cleansing,
obedience, and reverence (for example, Israel preparing before meeting God at
Sinai, or preparing for Passover) as seen in Exodus 19:10-15, 22, 12:11, and
Numbers 8:6-7.
Preparation in the Bible is
about getting ready—spiritually, practically, or inwardly—for what God is about
to do, often involving obedience, cleansing, and watchfulness.
The New Testament also
speaks of being prepared or ready in heart and life for the return of Christ,
for good works, and for sharing the gospel, showing that preparation is an
ongoing posture, not a one-time act.
But why do we need to
prepare when we already fellowship with the Lord daily? Preparation is important
as it shows our faith- when we get ready, we show we believe God will act.
God works through order.
Before the miracle, there was instruction. It is therefore important to prepare
to follow the instruction.
Preparation removes
distractions. Consecration means focusing on God and letting go of sin or
anything that hinders us.
We can prepare in several
ways. Practical and spiritual readiness according to Proverbs 24:27 is to –
“Prepare thy work without and make it fit for thyself in the field; and
afterwards build thine house.” This teaches wise, orderly preparation before
major steps.
True preparation starts in
the heart, directed by God as seen in Proverbs 16:1 – “The preparations of the
heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the Lord.”
1 Peter 3:15 – “But sanctify
the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man
that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.”
Preparation is a posture! We
must keep our oil refilled and lamps ready (spiritual vitality) for the
bridegroom’s unexpected coming. Overall principle as Luke 12:35-36 instructs “Let
your loins be girded about, and your lights burning; And ye yourselves like
unto men that wait for their lord…”.
Preparation is an ongoing
posture of readiness, watching, and serving, not a one-time event.
Are you prepared?
