RUNNING AWAY!
Psalm 139:7-10 TLB
I can never be lost to your
Spirit! I can never get away from my God! [8] If I go up to heaven, you are
there; if I go down to the place of the dead, you are there. [9] If I ride the
morning winds to the farthest oceans, [10] even there your hand will guide me,
your strength will support me.
We all have the impulse and
tendency to run from things we don’t like or wants to do.
Have you ever felt the urge
to run? From responsibility, pain, people, a calling you didn’t ask for, or run
from God Himself?
The truth is, many of us
have been there — standing at the crossroads, whispering, “If I can just
escape… maybe I won’t have to deal with this.”
But here’s the reality:
running does not resolve anything God designed you to face.
You may run, but you will
never outrun Him. You may hide, but you will never be hidden from Him. You may
avoid, but He will always encounter you — because His love is relentless, and
His call is irrevocable.
You are not the first to run.
Humanity’s story is full of people who tried to run from God, destiny, trouble,
truth and themselves but didn’t get far.
Adam & Eve, the first runners.
They hid among the trees, thinking God wouldn’t find them, but God didn’t just
find them, He called to them in Genesis 3:8-10. Not to destroy them… but to
restore them.
Hagar in Genesis 16:7-15 was
running from pain. Although she wasn’t running from God; she was running from
Sarah, God still saw her. Even in the wilderness, the God who sees found her
and sent her back, not to punish her, but to align her with destiny.
Let’s not forget prophet Jonah,
who ran from his assignment. He didn’t run because he was weak; he ran because
he disagreed with God and thought escape was an option.
But God had already prepared
a storm, a ship, and a fish — not to kill him, but to redirect him.
David ran from himself. David
tried to flee God’s presence through fear, shame, and guilt. Yet he later
confessed in our text.
Paul was running without knowing.
Paul didn’t realize he was running against God. He believed he was doing the
right thing… until the Light stopped him.
Where do you want God to
meet with you? Where do you think he'll meet with you?
Every runner has a reason.
Every runner has a story.
But every runner is pursued
by the same God.
People run for several
reasons:
1. Fear of Responsibility. “Lord,
I’m not ready.” “Choose someone else.”
2. Pain from Past Trauma. “I
can’t go back to that place.” “It still hurts.”
3. Disappointment with God. “When
You didn’t answer me… I shut down.”
4. Weariness. “Ministry is
heavy.” “Life is overwhelming.”
5. Feeling Unqualified. “I
don’t have what it takes.”
But hear this: Running
doesn’t disqualify you — it simply delays you.
Running may feel like relief
at first, but it leads to: Delays in destiny. Isolation from help. Distraction
from purpose. Exposure to spiritual attack. Exhaustion from carrying what God
wanted to carry for you. Redirection that could have been avoided.
God will always bring you
back to what you’re running from — because He wants you healed, aligned,
restored, and established.
God is the inescapable God —
not in judgment, but in mercy.
God is with you when you try
to succeed without Him. God is with you when you fall into failure. God is with
you when you hide out of shame. God is with you when you pretend, you’re fine
but inside you’re bleeding.
You can’t outrun a God who
is omnipresent, but more importantly, you can’t outrun the Father who loves
you.
If you must run - then run
towards Him.
If you must hide - then hide
in Him.
If you must fall - fall at
His feet.
There is only one safe place
as stated in Psalm 91:1-3 – God’s presence.
Stop running from destiny, calling,
assignment, ministry, healing, deliverance, the process, and the God who loves
you.
He is not angry — He is
waiting.
He is not chasing you to
punish — He is chasing to restore.
He is not pursuing to judge
— He is pursuing to embrace.
The Lord says: Return to Me.
The place you are running from is the place I will bless you. The thing you
fear is the thing I have already conquered for you.
Stop running from life. No
matter what you think you're running from, God's waiting for you.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
·
What area of my life am I most tempted to run
from, and what fear lies at the root of that desire to escape?
·
How have I seen God pursue, protect, or
redirect me in seasons when I tried to avoid His will or His presence?
·
What step of obedience, healing, or surrender
is God inviting me to take right now — and what would my life look like if I
stopped running and trusted Him instead?
PRAYER: Father, I return to
You today with my whole heart. Wherever I have been running, hiding, or
resisting Your call, I lay it down at Your feet. Meet me in this place,
strengthen me, and lead me in the path You have prepared for me. I choose to
surrender over fear, obedience over running, and Your presence over every
burden. Restore me, guide me, and help me walk boldly in my destiny. In Jesus’
name, Amen.
