SPECIAL TREATMENT!
2 Kings 5:8-11 TLB
But when Elisha the prophet
heard about the king of Israel's plight, he sent this message to him: "Why
are you so upset? Send Naaman to me, and he will learn that there is a true
prophet of God here in Israel." [9] So Naaman arrived with his horses and
chariots and stood at the door of Elisha's home. [10] Elisha sent a messenger
out to tell him to go and wash in the Jordan River seven times and he would be
healed of every trace of his leprosy! [11] But Naaman was angry and stalked
away. "Look," he said, "I thought at least he would come out and
talk to me! I expected him to wave his hand over the leprosy and call upon the
name of the Lord his God and heal me!
We all love the idea of
“special treatment.” Whether it’s a VIP pass, front-row seating, or
personalized service, it makes us feel valued and important. Naaman, a powerful
commander, expected that kind of treatment when he sought healing from Elisha.
He imagined a dramatic scene—prophetic gestures, loud prayers, and instant
miracles. Instead, he received simple instructions: “Go wash in the Jordan
seven times.”
Naaman was offended. Why?
Because God’s way didn’t match his expectations. He wanted something
spectacular, but God offered something simple. How often do we miss our
blessing because we’re looking for the extraordinary while ignoring the
ordinary steps of obedience?
We ask God certain things in
prayer but want to determine how and when He does it and if it doesn’t look
like what and how we want it, we question the authenticity of the answer.
From God’s viewpoint, true
“special treatment” is not about human status or outward display—it’s about His
grace and His glory. God does not cater to pride; He honours humility and faith
according to James 4:6. The simplicity of Elisha’s instruction was intentional:
it stripped Naaman of self-importance and redirected his focus to God’s power,
not man’s performance.
God’s ways often seem
ordinary because He wants us to trust Him, not the method as Isaiah 55:8-9. His
divine perspective is this: obedience is greater than spectacle, and humility
opens the door to miracles. What feels “too simple” to us is often the very
thing that demonstrates His sovereignty.
There are several other
biblical examples where God gave what looked like “special treatment,” but it
was His grace and purpose at work.
One such is Esther who had favour
before the king in Esther 2:17. Esther was an orphan and a foreigner, yet she
received favour and became queen. Her “special treatment” wasn’t about beauty
alone—it was God positioning her to save His people. God’s favour often looks
like special treatment, but it serves a divine purpose beyond personal gain.
Joseph in Genesis 41:14 went
from Prison to Palace because of special treatment. Joseph went from being a
prisoner to becoming second-in-command in Egypt. His sudden elevation seemed
like extraordinary privilege, but it was the fulfilment of God’s plan. What
looks like overnight success is often the result of hidden obedience and
faithfulness.
Daniel was treated specially
because of his excellence and promoted in Daniel 6:3. Daniel distinguished
himself through integrity and wisdom, and God gave him favour with kings. His
“special treatment” was rooted in faithfulness, even under pressure. The Lord always
honours those who remain steadfast in righteousness.
God’s “special treatment” is
not about pomp and ceremony—it’s about grace and transformation.
When you pray for financial
breakthrough, expecting a sudden windfall, God nudges you to start budgeting
and sowing faithfully.
When you ask for peace in
your home, hoping for instant harmony, God tells you to apologize first and
speak kindly.
When you desire healing,
expecting a dramatic prayer session, but God leads you to forgive someone or
change a lifestyle habit.
These instructions may seem
too ordinary, but they carry extraordinary power when obeyed.
Special treatment from God
is not about status or show—it’s about His grace working for His glory. He honours
humility, faith, and obedience. What feels “ordinary” to us often carries
extraordinary power when God is involved.
