SUCH A TIME AS THIS!
Esther 4:1-14 TLB
When Mordecai learned
what had been done, he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and ashes, and went
out into the city, crying with a loud and bitter wail. [2] Then he stood
outside the gate of the palace, for no one was permitted to enter in mourning
clothes. [3] And throughout all the provinces there was great mourning among
the Jews, fasting, weeping, and despair at the king's decree; and many lay in
sackcloth and ashes. [4] When Esther's maids and eunuchs came and told her
about Mordecai, she was deeply distressed and sent clothing to him to replace
the sackcloth, but he refused it. [5] Then Esther sent for Hathach, one of the
king's eunuchs who had been appointed as her attendant, and told him to go out
to Mordecai and find out what the trouble was and why he was acting like that.
[6] So Hathach went out to the city square and found Mordecai just outside the
palace gates, [7] and heard the whole story from him, and about the $20,000,000
Haman had promised to pay into the king's treasury for the destruction of the
Jews. [8] Mordecai also gave Hathach a copy of the king's decree dooming all
Jews, and told him to show it to Esther and to tell her what was happening and
that she should go to the king to plead for her people. [9] So Hathach returned
to Esther with Mordecai's message. [10] Esther told Hathach to go back and say
to Mordecai, [11] "All the world knows that anyone, whether man or woman,
who goes into the king's inner court without his summons is doomed to die
unless the king holds out his gold scepter; and the king has not called for me
to come to him in more than a month." [12] So Hathach gave Esther's
message to Mordecai. [13] This was Mordecai's reply to Esther: "Do you
think you will escape there in the palace when all other Jews are killed? [14]
If you keep quiet at a time like this, God will deliver the Jews from some
other source, but you and your relatives will die; what's more, who can say but
that God has brought you into the palace for just such a time as this?"
The Lord God is
strategic in working. Timing is everything! Have you acknowledged and accepted
that you are here for such a time as this? What does this mean? Where has God
placed you to be influential in this season? Are you using that influence over
situations that arise wisely?
The Bible tells us
that Esther was placed in an influential position “for such a time as
this”—God’s purpose was accomplished through Esther in the perilous time in
which she lived. Esther was a Jew living among the exiles in Persia, like so
many of us living among many people with strange cultures and customs that are
so different from ours in beliefs and faith.
Esther was brought up
by her cousin Mordecai who taught her all she needed to know to fit into King
Ahasuerus’s palace. In adherence to Mordecai’s instructions, Esther did not
reveal to anyone that she was a Jew. In time, Esther won the favour of the King
and was crowned queen in Esther 2:17. Where are you now, are you positioned for
such a time as this? God has raised us as He raised Esther to act in a
particular way in history for His purposes. We’ve been raised as saints in our
day to make an impact for God’s kingdom, but are we? The time came for Esther
to publicly declare her identity after she had been forbidden because it was
now time for God to use her for His ultimate purpose.
Wherever you are
right now, whatever your situation, God has a plan and a purpose to use us for
His kingdom at this time in history. We are not wherever by accident, and our
lives are not random. God is at work around us and through us. Sometimes all we
have to do is pay attention and look to Him because He is constantly busy on
kingdom business even in seemingly normal and natural things.
Esther was placed
where she was for when the time for deliverance came, so she could be used for
that time. She finally had the chance to present her petition to the king and
use the opportunity for deliverance to pursue her people’s freedom. We’ve all
been called to God’s kingdom for such a time as this! Have you accepted the
mission? Are you already on board with the mission? If we don’t accept the
mission, help or deliverance will rise from somewhere else, and God will raise
someone else to assume the mission.
We mustn’t allow
fear, as 2 Timothy 1:7 says to stop us from being used for the Lord’s kingdom
for such a time as this. God can always accomplish His plans without us because
He is sovereign, but He works out everything in conformity with the purpose of
His will according to Ephesians 1:11 and as Esther’s experience shows God uses
people in fulfilling His purpose.
No matter what the
situation or location, God has His instruments of deliverance and victory positioned
“For such a time as this.” God has at the ready brave, committed, and obedient
individuals who will step out in faith and accomplish God’s work. If you
disobey Him in the call for such a time as this, He will carry out his plans
through someone else, and we would miss the opportunity to be used for kingdom
purposes.
Remember that God’s
call to serve is beneficial to us because every opportunity to serve is an
opportunity to be blessed.
