THE POWER AND GLORY!
Matthew 6:13 AMPC
And lead (bring) us
not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom
and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
God will not share His glory with another
according to Isaiah 42:8 and because of His power, Luke 1:13 says nothing is
impossible with Him. God’s power and glory are part of the doxology that comes
at the end of the Lord's prayer. If we don’t thirst for God, we don’t search
for Him and can’t see His glory. It's in the glory of God that miracles happen,
the power of God is manifested within His glory. Our mindset should be that of
allowing the glory of God to be reflected in our daily lives and His power to
help us overcome daily challenges for His praise. The glory of God appears to
everyone but not everyone recognizes it as the tangible presence of the Lord. The
power, that energy by which the kingdom of God is governed and maintained and
without which spiritual titles and offices make authority ridiculously useless.
Glory is the unique splendour of God!
The glory of God can be described in two
senses. It can be a general category or attribute. It can also be a specific
category. The latter refers to historical demonstrations of his presence.
God’s glory refers primarily to his majestic
beauty and splendour. It also refers to the expression of God’s character
(Romans 3:23).
We are weak and can't do anything without the
power of God, but God is almighty, and all things are possible with Him. Thine
is the glory! That is, God is the honour or praise. Not our honour; but God’s
glory! His goodness is displayed in providing for us! His power, in defending
us! His praise in causing His kingdom to spread through to the world through
the word.
John 17:22 says God has given us glory
through Jesus Christ: this means we participate in all the attributes and
essence of God through the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, and the
visible glory of God in our lives is seen by men. As Christ said, the glory
which thou givest me I have given them”—that is, the power to work miracles,
and to preach the unadulterated truth, He has communicated to all those who
believe, or shall believe in Him, the glorious privilege of becoming sons of
God.
The 'Gloria in Excelsis (Glory... in the
highest), in which the hosts of heaven praised God for His wondrous love to
mankind shown in the incarnation: the angels were praising God in the highest
heaven for Christ's Nativity while on earth men enjoy peace with God and peace
and goodwill with one another says Luke 2:14.
We must learn to and desperately always seek
the glory of the Lord and not only His hands, for it is His glory that changes
man, and His power that grants us the ability to act with authority over the
powers of darkness. This is the shekinah glory of God. This means the “dwelling
glory.” It refers primarily to the presence of God in the pillar of cloud and
fire in the Old Testament.
The power and authority of the believer to
carry out the great commission of Matthew 28:20 is revealed and empowered by
the glory of God, the person of God is revealed in His glory according to
Isaiah 40:5, and the power of revelation is seen and utilized with authority
through grace to the glory of the Father. All power and glory belong to God,
and He chose to give us the power to do exploits and cause His glory to rest on
us in Isaiah 60:1. Romans 11:36 says the universe owes its origin to God, was
created by Him, and has its aim and purpose in Him. To Him be the glory
throughout the Ages! Amen.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
· In what areas of my
life do I need to deliberately allow the glory of God to be reflected daily?
· Do I truly thirst for
God, or have I become passive in seeking His presence and glory? (From the
statement “If we don’t thirst for God, we don’t search for Him and can’t see
His glory.”)
· How am I using the
power God has given me to advance His kingdom and walk in spiritual authority?
PRAYER: Glorious God,
thank you for being all-powerful and yet willing to pour out your glory on me
and empower me for exploits in Jesus’ name. Amen.
