TOGETHER!
Amos 3:3 ERV
Two people will not
walk together unless they have agreed to do so.
As we start this new
year, it’s important to pay attention to the company we keep. If we want to go
far and make progress, we need to walk with people who share our direction and
our values. There’s not much point in joining forces with someone who’s headed
in a completely different direction. If you’re digging deeper into the things
of the Spirit, it doesn’t really make sense to spend your time with people who
are perfectly comfortable staying in the shallow end.
That’s what this
passage is getting at—can two people effectively walk together if they’re not
headed the same way? If I’m set on reaching a certain place, and I know the
path, then no matter who tries to pull me off course or what distractions come
up, I must remember where I’m going. It’s up to me to decide not to follow
someone else off the path just because they invite me to.
Galatians 6:2 says to
carry each other’s burden, but that happens only if we’re in agreement and alignment.
Together both in actions and emotions.
Think about God and
Israel—repeatedly, scripture shows us that God couldn’t really move forward
with Israel unless they agreed to walk in His ways. There were plenty of times
when Israel pushed back against God’s laws or ignored His direction completely,
and God grew tired of constantly having to correct and rescue them. Even so,
because of His mercy, He kept showing up for them. But when Israel refused to
align with Him, there had to be separation.
There is an advantage
in being together as Solomon points out in Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, but that
togetherness is only as beneficial and impacting as the unity and agreement
among the parties.
We mustn’t always
look for people who can carry us, advance or help us (without God’s help), it
usually costly. Instead as Psalm 19 says God’s way is perfect. Why would we
link ourselves to people who are always unsure, hesitant, or stuck, instead of
sticking close to the one who knows exactly where we need to be—and how to get
us there?
We’re all going
somewhere, whether we realize it or not. Where are you heading? The new year is
already here, there’s no waiting for it anymore, so the question now is: what
are you going to do with it? The year is waiting for you to step in, to live it
fully, to take on your assignment, to meet new people, to make changes. Don’t
get caught just dragging last year’s baggage with you, carrying unfinished
business just out of habit. Sometimes God wants to give you a fresh start, but
it can’t happen if you never let go of the old things that are holding you
back. No more walking with people who’ll hold you back.
Simply put, if we
aren’t in agreement, we can’t go together. We must choose to walk with people
who share our commitment to seek God, pray, serve with passion, and go after spiritual
things together.
God rewards those who
are diligent, but are the people around you committed enough to walk this path
with you? Are you ready to go where God’s leading, do what He’s asking, and say
what needs to be said?
So where are you
heading—emotionally, physically, financially, mentally? God’s invitation is to
go deeper into spiritual things, to take the higher road, to reach for
something greater. That’s where breakthrough and victory happen.
Psalm 40:3’s new song
doesn’t come from repeating last year’s routines. It comes from overcoming new
obstacles, discovering new things, celebrating new victories, and seeing God
move in fresh ways. That’s when the new song shows up, springing out of your
tests and miracles.
Have you got an idea
or vision according to Habakkuk 2:2? Then look for people who are willing to
help make it real, run, walk, and collaborate with you so your story can make
real impact.
