CHILD-FRIENDLY LONGING!
Psalm 42:1-2 GNT
As a deer longs for a stream
of cool water, so I long for you, O God. [2] I thirst for you, the living God.
When can I go and worship in your presence?
Longing is a deep feeling
inside the heart — a strong wanting. It is not weakness. It is a sign that God
made us for more.
People in the Bible longed
too:
Adam longed for a
friend.
Abraham longed for God’s
promise.
Hannah longed for a
child.
David longed for God like
someone thirsty for water.
Paul longed to know Jesus
more.
Longing shows that our
hearts are awake and reaching for God. It tells us what we care about most.
Even when we have many good things, only God can fill the deepest part of us.
Abraham, Joseph, Israel, and
Simeon all waited with longing — and God met them.
Longing teaches us to wait
with hope.
Without hope, longing
becomes sadness.
With hope, longing becomes
worship.
Every longing — for love,
help, or purpose — leads us back to God. Like the deer in Psalm 42, our hearts
need God the way water gives life.
Jesus also longed — to
gather people, to save us, and to be with us.
So longing is not bad. It is
God inviting us closer.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
• What longing is God using
to draw me closer to Him?
• How do I wait — with
trust, frustration, or surrender?
• What desires do I need to
give back to God?
PRAYER: Lord, You see every
longing in my heart. Help me wait with hope and trust Your timing. Fill me with
Your presence and shape my desires to match Your will. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Shalom
