CHILD-FRIENDLY NOT TAUGHT! CAUGHT!
1 Corinthians 11:1-2 GNT
Imitate me, then, just as I
imitate Christ. [2] I praise you because you always remember me and follow the
teachings that I have handed on to you.
Some lessons are learned by
listening, but the strongest lessons are learned by watching. Many important
things in life are not taught with words—they are caught by example. This is
what “Not Taught! Caught” means.
Jesus showed this clearly.
He didn’t just talk about prayer—He prayed. He didn’t only speak about
compassion—He showed compassion. He didn’t just teach forgiveness—He forgave,
even on the cross. The disciples watched Him pray often, which is why they asked,
“Lord, teach us to pray.” They caught His lifestyle before they heard His
teaching.
Paul also understood the
power of example. When he said, “Imitate me as I imitate Christ,” he was
showing that our lives should reflect Jesus. Paul taught many things, but he
also lived them. He worked hard, he loved people, and he stayed faithful through
hard times. Early believers learned by watching him.
In the home, children catch
more than they are taught. Proverbs 22:6 reminds us that training is more than
words. Children copy what they see. They catch kindness when they see it
practiced. They catch gratitude when they see thankfulness at home. They catch
faith when they see parents praying instead of worrying.
The church must also be an
example. James 1:22 says we must be doers of the word. People notice how we
live before they listen to what we teach. Our actions become our strongest
message.
Everyday lessons are
caught:
Mercy when someone is
restored.
Integrity when someone
chooses honesty.
Humility when someone serves
quietly.
Faith when someone trusts
God in hard times.
The most powerful lessons
are lived, not just taught.
