CHILD-FRIENDLY OBEY MY VOICE.
Jeremiah 7:21-26 GNT
"My people, some
sacrifices you burn completely on the altar, and some you are permitted to eat.
But what I, the LORD, say is that you might as well eat them all. [22] I gave
your ancestors no commands about burnt offerings or any other kinds of sacrifices
when I brought them out of Egypt. [23] But I did command them to obey me, so
that I would be their God and they would be my people. And I told them to live
the way I had commanded them, so that things would go well for them. [24] But
they did not obey or pay any attention. Instead, they did whatever their
stubborn and evil hearts told them to do, and they became worse instead of
better. [25] From the day that your ancestors came out of Egypt until this very
day I have kept on sending to you my servants, the prophets. [26] Yet no one
listened or paid any attention. Instead, you became more stubborn and
rebellious than your ancestors.
John 10:27 tells us that we
are Jesus’ sheep, and His sheep listen to His voice. But are we really hearing
Him and doing what He says? God speaks to us through the Bible, and He wants us
to obey Him simply because He is God (Leviticus 8:4).
Obedience means listening to
someone in authority and doing what they ask. God is the highest authority, and
His voice is gentle but powerful (1 Kings 19:12–13). When we obey God, He
blesses us. Isaiah 1:19 says that if we obey Him, we will enjoy the good things
He gives.
Sometimes we obey our
pastors, teachers, or parents quickly, but we argue with God’s instructions.
Jesus says in Matthew 16:24 that if we want to follow Him, we must obey Him
every day. Obedience is not something we do only when we feel like it—it is a way
of life. In Jeremiah 7:23, God says, “Obey My voice.” He wants us to walk in
His ways so He can call us His people.
Jesus obeyed God completely,
even when it was hard (Philippians 2:8). We should obey God too. When we read
and obey His Word, He helps us and makes our way successful (Joshua 1:8).
Isaiah 30:21 says God will guide us and show us the right path.
Sometimes we obey God in
some things and ignore Him in others, but God wants us to obey Him with all our
heart (Deuteronomy 26:16). Peter and John obeyed God even when people told them
not to talk about Jesus (Acts 4:19). God wants us to choose His voice above
every other voice.
Will you obey His voice?
