CHILD-FRIENDLY REARVIEW MIRROR SYNDROME!
Isaiah 43:18-19 GNT
But the LORD says, "Do
not cling to events of the past or dwell on what happened long ago. [19] Watch
for the new thing I am going to do. It is happening already-you can see it now!
I will make a road through the wilderness and give you streams of water there.
Some people spend too much
time thinking about the past—old mistakes, old problems, or “the good old
days.” This is what I call rear‑view
mirror syndrome. It means you are looking backward instead of forward.
But God wants us to look
ahead, not behind. He has good plans for our future (Jeremiah 29:11). We cannot
see what God is doing now if we keep staring at yesterday. The Bible says, “Forget
the former things… I am doing a new thing!”
A car has a small mirror for
looking back, but a big windshield for looking forward. You can’t drive well if
you keep looking in the mirror. The same way, you can’t move into God’s plan if
you keep living in the past.
Paul said in Philippians
3:13 that he “forgets what is behind.” Forgetting doesn’t mean you lose
memory—it means you don’t let the past control your future.
Jesus also said that anyone
who looks back is not ready for His kingdom (Luke 9:62). Lot’s wife looked back
and lost her future because her heart was stuck in her old life.
When Israel was afraid at
the Red Sea, God said, “Move forward.” God never takes His children
backward—only forward.
Your eyes are in front
because your future is in front. God protects your past, and He leads you into
your tomorrow.
Many heroes in the Bible had
a bad past, but God still used them:
• Moses made mistakes, but
God used him.
• Rahab had a bad past, but
God changed her story.
• Peter failed, but Jesus
still chose him.
• Paul hurt many people
before, but God made him great.
God can also change your
story—if you stop looking back and start looking forward.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
•
What old memories or mistakes am I still
thinking about too much?
•
How can I look forward this week instead of
looking back?
•
Where do I need to trust God and let go so I
can move into His new plan for me?
PRAYER: Lord, help me stop
looking back and help me see the new things You are doing in my life. Give me a
strong heart to move forward with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Shalom
