CHILD-FRIENDLY WHOEVER GOD CHOOSES!
Proverbs 21:1 GNT
The LORD controls the mind
of a king as easily as he directs the course of a stream.
Everyone makes choices, and
God also makes choices. But God does not choose people because of how they look
or what others think. God looks at the heart. Proverbs 21:1 says that God can
guide a person’s heart the same way water flows in a river. This means God is
in control, even of important people.
God’s choices are different
from ours. When Samuel went to anoint the next king of Israel, he thought Eliab
looked like the right one. But God said in 1 Samuel 16:7 that He doesn’t look
at the outside — He looks at the heart.
David was the youngest and
was not even invited at first, but God had seen his heart. He worshipped,
obeyed, and trusted God even when no one was watching.
God weighs the inside, not
the outside
People may care about
talent, clothes, or popularity, but God cares about kindness, humility, and
obedience.
Saul looked like a good
king, but his heart was not stable. God wants to protect us, so He will not
give us responsibilities our hearts cannot handle.
God also guides people’s
hearts to fulfil His plans.
He guided:
Pharaoh’s heart (Exodus
9:12)
Cyrus’ heart to rebuild the
temple (Ezra 1:1)
Nebuchadnezzar’s heart to
humble him (Daniel 4:34–37)
If God can guide kings, He
can guide anyone connected to your purpose — helpers, leaders, teachers, or
friends.
God chooses us because of
His mercy, not because we try to impress Him (Romans 9:15). You don’t have to
fight for His attention. If God chooses you, no one can stop His plan
(Revelation 3:7–8).
Since God weighs the heart,
our job is to keep our hearts clean and open to Him. Like David prayed in Psalm
51:10, we can ask God to give us a clean heart.
A heart that listens to God
is a heart God can use.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
· What
part of my heart do I need to give to God?
· Am I
caring more about how I look on the outside than who I am on the inside?
· Do I
trust God to guide the hearts of people around me?
PRAYER: Father, You look at
the heart. Please make my heart clean and obedient. Help me trust Your choices
and timing. Let my heart always honour You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Shalom
