We sabi the prayer wey Jabez pray well well—na one of the most famous prayers for Bible. Imagine say you dey carry name wey dey always remind you of pain or wahala wey happen for your beginning. Every pikin dey expect blessing from papa and mama, but wetin go happen if na curse dem call you, maybe from their own pain? We dey recite Jabez prayer every time, but we dey really look inside e story well? Wetin make God stop that long list of names just to talk small about Jabez for only two verses? 

The wahala of Jabez start from im name. For spirit matter, name dey tied to destiny. Name fit push person forward or hold am back. God no dey play with name, because person dey sometimes turn to wetin people dey always call am. Jabez mama born am during pain—maybe pregnancy hard her, or marriage no sweet, we no sabi. But thank God say Jabez get sense pray. After many years of mockery, bad luck, and inner battles, na prayer he use change the story wey follow im name. 

Plenty people no understand say name get weight for spirit. Name no be just how people identify you—e be banner, prophecy, and declaration every time person call you. Your name dey go before you reach there. E fit enter room wey you never enter, appear for paper wey you never sign, and follow you go place wey your leg never touch. If the meaning of your name no match God plan for your life, e fit cause spiritual resistance—small-small limitation wey you no go understand until God open your eyes. 

Bible full with example of names wey shape destiny and life pattern. Phinehas wife call her pikin Ichabod— “the glory don waka”—because of grief (1 Samuel 4:18–22). Naomi wey mean “pleasant” talk say make them call her Mara, “bitter,” because of her pain for Ruth 1:20. But God no allow her story end for bitterness. He restore her joy with Ruth and Boaz, show say situation no suppose define identity. 

If your name no follow your destiny, you fit change am. The Bible give plenty example: 

- Abram to Abraham (Genesis 17:5) 

- Sarai to Sarah (Genesis 17:15) 

- Jacob to Israel (Genesis 32:28) 

- Solomon to Jedidiah (2 Samuel 12:25) 

- Saul to Paul (Acts 13:9) 

- Simon to Peter wey mean “rock” (John 1:42) 

Each of these name change get reason. God dey change name when assignment change. New purpose dey call for new identity, and new identity dey come with new name. 

Plenty believers today need that same spiritual turn. You no must go court change your name, but you suppose reject every label wey no match who God say you be—name like failure, unworthy, rejected, forgotten, slow, unlucky, cursed. All those ones no come from God. Heaven no dey call you by your mistake or pain; Heaven dey call you by your purpose. 

And God even get better promise for every believer—new name for eternity: “I go give am white stone, and for the stone, new name go dey write wey only the person go sabi am.” As Revelation 2:17 talk.

Till that day reach, answer only the names wey God take call you—names of victory, purpose, destiny, strength, favour, and divine identity. I dey blessed because my name talk am, and the Word of God confirm am. 

REFLECTION QUESTIONS 

·        Wetin be the meaning of the names wey I carry—whether people give me or I give myself—and how dem don shape my life or identity? 

·        I still dey answer some bad names or labels wey people don talk over my life? How I fit reject them and follow who God say I be? 

·        Which area for my life I need pray like Jabez—make God break every limitation and align my identity with Him? 

PRAYER: Thank You, Lord, say You don align my name with my destiny for Christ. I go waka inside the identity wey You give me, in Jesus name. Amen.
