PIDGIN COPYCAT!

3 John 1:11 “My friend, make yu nor follow bad tin, but do wetin dey good. Di pesin wey dey do good, na God own and di pesin wey dey do wetin bad, neva know God.

 

For that verse, Bible use the word “imitate” but make we just change am small call am “copy” or “copycat.” E mean say to mimic or do wetin you see another person dey do. Sometimes, e fit also mean to obey as Bible want am. Christians suppose always reason not just wetin dem get to do, but wetin dem fit do—make we even  do ordinary actions for life in a godly way. That one mean say make we dey copy good character and action wey go bring glory to God, no be to man. 

To copy or imitate somebody mean say you like the person and you wan either be like dem or get the same result wey dem dey get. But you get ask yourself: which person good or godly attitude you dey copy? Because truth be say, no be only good things people dey imitate — evil too dey spread by copying. 

We dey live for generation wey dey chase fast reward and fleshly desire — e don become normal and even expected say people, especially young ones, go dey copy bad behaviour. But Apostle Paul say make believers follow him example as he follow Christ. We suppose be example to people around us — for our character, attitude, behaviour, look, manners, and the way we dey talk. 

Even pikin dey copy papa and mama, or elder brother and sister, from wetin dem see. For Bible, when you look Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob with their children, you go notice say dem repeat the same pattern of sin — like how dem run go Egypt go find help, or lie say their wife no be their wife (Genesis 12:13; 20:3,13; 26:7). The truth be say people around us, especially those wey dey look up to us, dey easily copy our ways — including our mistakes. 

Every believer suppose follow Paul example by doing everything to glorify God and not offend others. For 1 Corinthians 1:11, Paul talk about contention — one serious offence wey don too common for church today. We no suppose copy people wey dey do evil, gossip, or try control others by manipulation. All those attitudes dey against God Word. Instead, as Romans 8:14 show, when we dey do good, we dey show say we belong to God and Him Spirit dey lead us. 

Righteous action and godly behaviour na proof say God dey present inside person life wey don change. But too often, we give people opinion more weight than wetin God talk. When God tell us something, we go begin ask other people their opinion instead of obeying Him straight. 

Hebrews 13:7 tell us say make we imitate faithful leaders and spiritual mentors wey dey follow Christ example. So make we reject and waka comot from path of immorality and corruption. Even when we jam ungodly people or dey inside bad environment, make we careful no go copy wetin go offend God (Psalm 106:35). 

No copy evil, copy God. If you get to be copycat, make sure say you dey copy only good, godly, and righteous character. 

As believers, the best way to avoid copying wrong things na to remain rooted for God Word and stay close to the Holy Spirit. The more we look Christ through Bible reading, prayer, and obedience, the more our heart go dey change to resemble Am. True imitation of Christ no be force behaviour — na natural result of a new heart wey sincerely wan please God. When we surround ourselves with godly mentors and good environment, our spirit go dey stronger to walk in righteousness. 

Make your life stand firm for Christ so that anybody wey dey copy you go actually dey copy Jesus without knowing. 

REFLECTION QUESTIONS 

·       Which person character, behaviour, or lifestyle I dey copy — knowingly or unknowingly — and e dey match with Christ? 

·       Which habit or action for my life fit dey influence others in wrong way, and how I fit begin show godly example instead? 

·       Which area of my life I need more sense and discernment, so I no go dey copy worldly pattern but follow Christ and godly mentors example? 

PRAYER: Dear Lord, give me grace to always copy Christ and follow only those wey go lead me near Christ. Make my life reflect Your ways every day, in Jesus name. Amen.
