Psalm 40

I wait with patient make God kon help mi, and E turn kon hear my kry.

2E take mi komot from di pit where shame pain and sofa full kon put my leg for groun wey strong well-well, den E make mi strong as I dey waka.

3E don give mi new song to sing and hymns wey I go take praiz awa Oga God. Many pipol go si wetin E do kon praiz am, den dem go start to trust God.

4Make una si as pipol wey trust God dey happy; doz wey nor like proud pipol or woship juju.

5My Oga God, Yu don do wonderful tins for us. Wetin Yu plan for us too many to kount. Nobody bi like Yu. If I start to kount all di wonderful tins wey Yu don do, I nor go fit kount dem finish.

6Yu really don make mi undastand sey, nor bi only sakrifice and ofrin yu wont. True-true, Yu nor just wont only burnt or sin ofrin.

7Den I sey, “Look, I don kom, just as dem rite about mi for yor Book sey:

8‘My God, I won do wetin Yu wont, bikos Yu rite yor laws for my heart.’ ”

9I don tell yor pipol about how Yu dey judge. I nor dey fear to tok about all di good tins wey Yu don do.

10All di good tins wey Yu do, I nor keep dem for my heart; but I don tok about as Yu dey faithful and yor pawa wey dey save pipol.

11So Oga God, make Yu nor stop to dey sorry for mi. Make yor love and faith wey nor dey fail, always dey protet mi. Prayer For Help

12Trobol gada round mi and I nor fit kount dem! My sins don many well-well and I nor sure sey I go fit dey free from dem! Dem many pass di hair wey dey my head

and I don lost all my hope.

13So my God, abeg, make Yu save mi! Make Yu kwik-kwik kom help mi.

14Make shame and disgrace follow di pipol wey dey try to distroy mi. Pipol wey dey happy bikos I dey sofa, make disgrace follow dem.

15Make shame and disgrace follow dem, bikos dem sey, “Yes o-o! Wi don get am naw!”

16But pipol wey dey find Yu, make joy and gladness full dia heart. Make doz wey love yor salvashon always dey shaut sey, “God dey great!”

17I dey poor and I nor get anytin, so make God keep mi for en mind. My God, make Yu kwik kom, bikos na Yu bi my help and di Pesin wey go save mi.

Psalm 40 na better mix of trust, surrender, and God purpose. David no just dey talk about him own calling here — e words point go front to Christ — the One wey every promise, prophecy, and purpose for Scripture dey complete inside, as Hebrews 10:5–7 talk am. But e still call us make we reason how God dey write Him purpose inside our life today. Like David, and finally like Jesus, we too suppose answer God with obedience, trust, and worship.

David begin with testimony wey many of us fit relate with: “I wait patiently for the Lord; and He incline unto me and hear my cry.” Him waiting no be idle one. Na the kind wey dey lean forward with faith, dey trust say God go move, even when e be like say nothing dey happen.

David describe him situation as “horrible pit” and “miry clay” — picture wey show despair, confusion, and that feeling say person don stuck. But God no leave am there. God “carry am come up” and set him leg for solid rock.

This story resembles wetin happen to plenty believers for Bible. Joseph wait for prison, no sure how God go fulfill Him promise (Genesis 40–41). Hannah wait with tears and prayer for the pikin wey her heart dey long for (1 Samuel 1). The disciples sef wait for upper room for the promised Spirit (Acts 1:4). For all this stories, God dey write something for the “volume of their book” — story wey need patience, trust, and surrender.

When God deliver David, e lead to new song. When God lift person, e no just restore where you dey before —e transform you. Your testimony go shine: “Many go see am, fear, and go trust the Lord.” Wetin God do for you go become invitation for others to believe.

God’s will dey show for Him word, and for the heart of the psalm, David talk: “Sacrifice and offering thou no desire… Then I say, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book, e don write about me.”

David understand say God no dey look for empty sacrifice, but obedience (1 Samuel 15:22). Christ come fulfill wetin e don write about am — to do the Father’s will perfect. He be the Word wey turn flesh (John 1:14), the One wey delight to do God’s will.

This one show us something deep: say God’s purpose for our life don also dey written — maybe no by name for Bible, but for Him eternal plan for each of us.

Ephesians 2:10 remind us say we be God workmanship, created for good works wey He don prepare before time. Your life no be mistake. God get divine script, and as you waka with Him, He go show you page by page.

David later talk say he no hide God righteousness or faithfulness. He talk openly about God goodness. When person don taste mercy true true, e no fit keep am quiet.

Remember the Samaritan woman for John 4? After she meet Jesus, she drop her water pot, run go her town talk, “Come see man…” That small testimony draw many come Christ. When God dey write Him story for your life, e no suppose stay private.

Your story — your healing, rescue, restoration — na part of the “volume” wey God dey write for your life. Another person breakthrough fit dey tied to the testimony wey you go share.

God mercy no dey finish; e continue every chapter. Even after David thank God for deliverance, he still beg: “Oh Lord, no withhold your tender mercy from me.” Na this same prayer we too suppose pray.

Life with God no be one-time miracle then smooth road after. Na daily walk with mercy. David still face another challenges, enemies, and him own weakness. But he end with quiet confidence: “The Lord dey think upon me.”

That truth sweet die. The same God wey create galaxies dey reason you. Jesus talk am too: the Father don count every hair for your head (Matthew 10:30). You no be forgotten person. You dey inside God mind and heart.

To live “In the volume of the book” mean say you dey willingly enter God story. E mean: Embrace Him timing. Trust Him deliverance. Surrender to Him will. Talk boldly about Him faithfulness. Depend on Him mercy every single day.

Christ fulfill the big “volume of the book,” and since we belong to am, our life don join for Him story of redemption.
