PIDGIN LONGING!

Psalm 42:1-2

My God, just as deer dey find wota to drink,
na so too I dey find Yu.
2I dey hongry to know God!
Di God wey dey alive.
So na wen I go take stand for en front?

 

Sometimes, person fit get one kind ache for inside heart wey words no fit explain, the ache wey dey pull for soul, dey stretch the heart toward something wey pass wetin our eye fit see. This na longing. This longing no be weakness, e no mean say you lack anything for life; na sign say we need more than wetin we dey see. 

Na that same longing for more make me find faith — longing for wetin pass the dry, traditional routine of church life wey no dey satisfy soul (Hebrews 5:12). 

Longing don exist from beginning of human story. Adam long for companionship before Eve come. Abraham long for promised land wey e never see. Hannah long for pikin. David long for God presence more than water for dry land. Paul long to know Christ and the power of His resurrection. Even creation itself, like Romans 8:19 talk, dey “groan with eager longing” for redemption. 

Longing no mean say something wrong with you. E mean say something right inside you — say your heart still dey alive, awake, and dey reach out to the One wey put eternity inside you (Ecclesiastes 3:11). 

Longing dey show the depth of our desire, as David talk for Psalm 84:2. This one no be small wish — e be deep hunger, thirst, and the ache of heart wey know where home truly dey. 

So, ask yourself: wetin you dey long for? Where your real home dey? 

Longing dey expose wetin we value most. E show wetin we dey hope for. E open up the places where our soul no gree settle for counterfeit. 

When David long for God, no be because blessings no dey — he get success, honour, and power. But nothing satisfy that deeper ache inside am.

Longing na the soul way of saying, “Only God fit fill this space.” 

Abraham live with longing. Hebrews 11:10 talk say he look forward to the city wey get real foundation, wey God na the builder. He waka through dry desert with promise for him heart and longing for him spirit. 

Longing na wetin make us dey move, believe, and stretch toward wetin God plan for us. 

Joseph long for freedom inside prison. Israel long for deliverance for Egypt. Simeon long to see the Messiah — and God honour that longing make e hold salvation with him own hand for Luke 2:25–32.

God no despise your longing. He dey honour am, shape am, and use am draw you nearer to Himself. 

Longing go teach us how to wait well, just like Psalm 130 talk — to wait for the Lord and hope for Him word. To wait no be to fold hand and do nothing; na active trust. 

Longing without hope fit turn to despair. 

Longing with hope go turn to worship. 

Hannah longing push am go temple. Anna longing keep her fasting and praying for years. 

To wait well mean make you allow longing to refine you, not break you. 

Longing always point us go God presence. Because for the root of every longing — even the ones wey no look spiritual, na deeper longing for God Himself. The desire for love, purpose, justice, healing, or peace all lead back to Him. 

The deer for our text no just dey thirst for water — e dey long for survival, refreshment, and life. Na so we too dey long for God wey dey sustain our life. 

When we carry our longings come meet God, we go realise say He no just dey fulfill desire — na Him be the fulfilment.

God no dey wait make your longing finish before He come meet you. He dey meet you inside am. He dey strengthen you through am. He dey use am transform you. 

Even Jesus experience longing. He long to gather Jerusalem like mother hen dey gather her chicks (Matthew 23:37). He long for the joy wey dey before Am, our salvation (Hebrews 12:2). He long make we dey with Him where He dey (John 17:24). 

So, if Jesus Himself long for, that means longing no be flaw,  na holy invitation. 

REFLECTION QUESTIONS 

·       Which longing for my heart God dey use draw me close to Him? 

·       How I don dey respond to seasons of waiting — with trust, frustration, or surrender? 

·       Which desires I need drop back for God hand make He shape am Himself? 

PRAYER: Lord, You see every longing inside my heart — the one wey I talk and the one wey I never talk. Teach me to wait with hope, to trust Your timing, and to find my deepest satisfaction inside You. Shape my desires until dem match Your will. Make my longing draw me closer to You every day. In Jesus name, amen.
