2 Samuel 11

2One day, David wake-up from sleep for aftanoon kon waka go di roof. As e dey waka round for der, e si one woman wey dey baf for en house and e fine well-well. 3So e send messenja go find out who di woman bi. Leta, dem kon tell am sey na Batsheba, wey bi Eliam pikin and na Uriaya wey bi Hit pesin, bi en husband. 4David send messenjas go koll am. Dem koll di woman kom and David sleep with am. Dat time, di woman just mestrate finish, so e kon go en house back. 5Afta, di woman kon si sey e get belle, den e send message go tell David.

6David send message go give Joab, “Make yu send Uriaya wey bi Hit pesin kom meet mi.” So Joab send am go meet David. 7Wen Uriaya kom, David ask weda evritin dey well with Joab and di rest pipol and how di fight dey go. 8Den e tell Uriaya, “Make yu go house go rest small.” Uriaya go en house, den David send gift go gi-am. 9But Uriaya nor go house, instead e sleep for di palis gate with di guards.

10Wen David hear sey Uriaya nor go house, e kon ask am, “Yu just kom back from where yu go since, why yu nor go house?”

11Uriaya ansa, “Israel and Judah men with di Kovenant Box dey war; Joab wey bi my kommander and en ofisas, kamp for open place. How I go take go house go chop, drink and sleep with my wife? So, I use evritin wey dey holy take swear sey I nor go fit do dat kind tin.”

12So David ansa, “Make yu stay here today and tumoro, den I go send yu go back.” So Uriaya stay for Jerusalem dat day and di next day. 13David invite am kom chop and drink till evening. But Uriaya nor still go house dat nite, instead e sleep for en blanket for di palis guard-room.

14Di next day, David rite leta give Uriaya sey make e give Joab. 15Wetin dey di leta na, “Put Uriaya for di front line, where di fight for strong well-well, so dat dem go kill-am.”

16So, as Joab dey surround di town, e kon send Uriaya go di place where enemies for strong well-well. 17Di enemy sojas kom fight Joab sojas and dem kill Uriaya with some of David ofisas.

18Den Joab send messenja go tell David how di war dey go 19and e tell di messenja sey, “Afta yu don tell di king about di war, 20e fit vex ask yu, ‘Why una go near di town go fight dem? Una nor know sey dem go shot arrow from di walls? 21Una don forget how dem take kill Abimelek wey bi Gideon pikin? Na for Tebez, one woman trow stone from di wall kon kill-am. Why una go near di wall like dat?’ If di king ask yu dis tins, den make yu tell am sey, ‘Uriaya wey bi yor offisa, don die too.’ ”

22So di messenja go meet David kon tell am wetin Joab tok. 23E sey, “Awa enemy strong pass us and dem from di town kom fight us for open field, but wi drive dem go di town gate back. 24Den dem shot arrow from di wall kon kill Uriaya and some of yor ofisas.”

25David tell di messenja, “Tell Joab make e nor fear or vex, bikos dem nor dey know who go die for war. Tell am make e attack di town well-well kon win am.”

26Wen Batsheba hear sey dem don kill en husband, e mourn for am. 27Wen e mourn finish, David kon bring am kom di palis and e born boy for am. But God nor like wetin David do.

 

No be small thing o! I dey always talk say Bible na correct library wey carry better collection of books – e get story of murder, adultery, war, marriage, pikin, betrayal, political wahala and many more. Bible get plenty genre inside am. One of dem na the popular story of David and Bathsheba, Uriah wife — we all sabi the gist well well. 

Temptation fit show face for anywhere and anyhow. Sometimes e go meet person when e even dey for the right place. But imagine as e go bad reach if person fall for temptation because e no dey where e suppose dey. How many times we don miss our rightful position wey God place us? 

To dey for correct position mean say person dey that spot wey God assign give am — im site, im station, or im condition. We dey always pray make we dey the right place at the right time, and that one good. But we suppose also pray make we no go land for the wrong place at the wrong time, and even the wrong place at the right time. David dey for him palace, na him house be that, but that season he suppose dey for battlefield, no be rooftop. Because e miss im duty post, temptation catch am, and e fall for im flesh desire (Galatians 5:16). 

Temptation na normal part of life, but to fall for temptation na sin, because every sin start from temptation (James 1:15). And when person don enter sin, another sin go follow (1 John 3:4). Sin dey sweet small, but e dey carry heavy consequence (Genesis 3:1‑19). Anytime we no dey where we suppose dey, we go end up dey do wetin no correct. 

Right positioning matter for every area of life. E no get limit to the level of sin person fit enter once e shift from where God put am or e waka comot from God side. We all wan dey rightly positioned for life, marriage, work, and business. Sometimes people dey do everything — even wrong things — just to get position wey dem think say na correct one for dem. 

But 2 Samuel 11:1 talk say “David remain for Jerusalem.” This “but” na big contrast. Na the season when kings dey go war with their soldiers, but David decide to stay back for palace — out of him rightful place of duty. That wrong position na wetin open door for temptation, idleness, sin, cover-up, and finally tragedy. 

David send him men go fight but he himself stay behind. Why? We no know completely. But Ephesians 2:6 remind us say our proper position no be physical one — e dey "in Christ Jesus." We get this position because of God grace through the blood covenant — the New Covenant wey Jesus make with Him own blood. That covenant bring divine exchange — He take our place make we fit take His place. 

To enjoy wetin Bible talk say we be and wetin we fit experience as believers, we gats understand difference between our position in Christ and our experience for this world. Na this understanding dey bring spiritual growth and power to live like Jesus talk say we fit live — with miracle, grace, and strength to overcome temptation when e show. 

We all suppose remain inside Christ. Colossians 2:12 and Romans 6:4‑7 talk say we don die once with Christ. So we must die to world matter if we wan stay rightly positioned — both for life and for Christ.

·        Where I dey now for life — spiritually, emotionally, and physically — na where God want make I dey? 

·        Which area of my life I don neglect my responsibility give God, wey don open door for temptation or distraction? 

·        I get relationship, environment, or activity wey dey drag me comot from my right position for God? Wetin I fit do to avoid dem? 

PRAYER: Papa God, make I no take my position for You for granted. Make I no ignore the place wey You position me for another thing. Help me make I always choose the right position every time, in Jesus name. Amen.
