PIDGIN SUGAR-COATED TONGUE!

2 Timothy 4:3–5

Bikos time dey kom wen pipol nor go won hear good and betta tishing again. Instead, dem go dey follow wetin dey hongry dem to do kon dey find tisha wey go tish dem wetin dem won hear. 4Dem go rijet di trut and love lie-lie story.

The time wey Bible warn us about don already reach. We dey live for generation wey people no wan hear sound teaching again. Nobody wan endure truth or correct doctrine. Today, many people prefer messages wey dey sweet ear and satisfy dier desires. Dem like feel-good sermons wey dey make the flesh happy, instead of the truth wey dey change life.

2 Corinthians 2:17 clear: “We no dey use the Word of God take do business for gain like some people. Instead, we dey speak from pure heart, as people wey dey represent Christ before God.” But today, many don mix lies with God Word. We dey add sugar to any truth wey hard to swallow, make e taste better — but you say know sugar dey sweet but without value. The truth no dey sweet, but na the thing wey fit heal soul.

To preach the message of Christ no be to entertain people; e suppose make people repent and turn back from sin. No be to cover sin under “love and grace” and call am liberty. Many people dey preach God love and grace but dem no dey explain why God dey show that love and grace.

Some ministers don believe say the gospel suppose sound attractive, fine, and popular so that listeners go like am. But that kind gospel na sugar-coated one. Dem hide the hard truth, cut corner to make people comfortable. The message don turn seventy percent worldly and thirty percent true.

Jesus no sugar-coat Him message. He go straight to the point — sometimes e even sound harsh, but e speak truth. Which use the gospel get if we water down the message for sinner wey need hard truth to repent?

As A.W. Tozer talk, “When people sugar-coat Christianity and make am look soft, dem don remove the cross from the message.” This na truth. Because the real difference between Christianity and other religions na the message of the cross. No real repentance dey come from sugar-coated gospel. Such messages dey create false converts — people wey think say dem dey saved but no get true foundation.

Many people don claim salvation without understanding the true gospel. That one don produce believers wey no fit balance wetin dem hear before with wetin Bible really talk. Matthew 7:21–23 show say many go think say dem dey saved, but Christ go tell dem say He no know dem — because dem swallow sugar from preacher wey prefer to entertain crowd than feed sheep.

Christ no preach any sugar-coated gospel. He talk am plain say those wey no believe Him word and still dey follow sin belong to the devil (John 8:33, 35, 44).

Today, many pulpits don weak because the message don lose power. Sugar-coated doctrine dey full of lights, performance, and excitement — e dey please ear, e dey sweet eye, but e no dey challenge soul to grow. Sadly, sugar-coated messages don become the main course for many believers’ spiritual food, when Bible talk say we suppose desire the pure Word like newborn baby (1 Peter 2:2), so we go grow strong.

We don even reduce the Word of God to fine rhymes, trending grammar, and cute slogans. But Bible truth no go ever expire (Jude 3). No Christian get right to use tricks take make God Word “relevant.” The gospel no need modern packaging; e only need truth and conviction.

We no suppose sugar-coat God message just to please people. If truth go offend person but save their soul, better make dem vex and repent than smile and perish. Even if nobody gree listen, still preach truth. Never sugar-coat the gospel — preach am raw, preach am right.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

·       For which area I dey tempted to choose feel-good message instead of truth wey go bring repentance and growth?

·       How I fit know difference between message wey come from Scripture and one wey preacher craft to please people?

·       Wetin I go do to commit myself to preach and accept the full, unfiltered Word of God wey no compromise truth?

PRAYER: Lord, help me to know the difference between sugar-coated message wey dey only tickle ear and the raw truth wey come from Your Word. Give me courage to stand for truth always, in Jesus name, amen.
