POWER FOR WORKS!

Acts 1:8-9 AMPC

But you shall receive power (ability, efficiency, and might) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends (the very bounds) of the earth. [9] And when He had said this, even as they were looking [at Him], He was caught up, and a cloud received and carried Him away out of their sight.

We need power, both physical, mental and especially spiritual for all manners of assignment and activities. Every assignment God gives requires power. Not human strength, not personality, not talent — but divine empowerment. Jesus made this clear before His ascension in verse 8.

Power is the ability to do things, whether by strength, skill, resources, or because of authorization by someone.

The unlimited power of God almighty, and all other power comes from him. Much that the Bible says is summed up in the words of 1 Chronicles 29:11-12.

This power was not optional. It was essential. The disciples had walked with Jesus, learned from Him, watched miracles, and heard every teaching — yet He still told them to wait. Why? Because kingdom work cannot be done with human energy. It requires heaven’s power.

We need power to do what we cannot do alone as instructed in verses 8–9.

Jesus did not say, “You will receive ideas,” or “You will receive motivation.”  He was very clear and specific, “You will receive power” he said.

The Greek word is Dunamis — explosive, dynamic, supernatural ability. This power enables you to: Stand where fear once ruled. To speak where silence once held you. To move where hesitation once stopped you. To believe where doubt once whispered and to persevere where weariness once drained you.

When Jesus ascended in verse 9, He did not leave them, and us, (the church) powerless. He left with a promise, a promise that would turn ordinary men and women into world changers.

Have you received power? Do you operate in that power? Do you want to be a world changer? Then you need Jesus’ power to be just that.

The same Spirit that empowered them empowers you. The same power that birthed the early church fuels your assignment. The same anointing that rested on them rests on you.

This is power that works even when you are bound as seen in Acts 12:5–7. Acts 12 gives us a vivid picture of power at work in impossible places.

Peter was imprisoned, chained, guarded, surrounded by soldiers and awaiting execution. But verse 5 says, “The church was earnestly praying to God for him.”

And verse 7 reveals the result: “Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared… and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists.”

This is power for works — power that gives access into locked places, breaks chains, interrupts the enemy’s plans, overrides human limitations and opens doors no one can shut.

Peter did not have the power and could do nothing to free himself. He was asleep but heaven was awake.

This is the kind of power God releases when His people pray and when His Spirit moves — power that works even when you cannot.

The power that turns prayer into movement.

As seen in chapter 12, the church prayed. Heaven responded and Peter walked out.

This is the rhythm of kingdom power: Prayer → Power → Movement → Testimony

God’s power is not abstract. It produces visible results: Strength for your calling, boldness for your witness, breakthrough in your battles, deliverance from what binds and acceleration in your assignment.

The same God who empowered the disciples in Acts 1 and delivered Peter in Acts 12 is still empowering His people today.

You are not called to work in your own strength.

You are not expected to fulfil your assignment alone.

You are not left to fight spiritual battles with natural tools.

You have power for works — power to do, power to stand, power to overcome, power to witness, power to break through, power to finish.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

·       Where do I need to rely less on my own strength and more on the power of the Holy Spirit?

·       What “chains” or limitations in my life require God’s supernatural intervention?

·       How can I cultivate a lifestyle of prayer that invites God’s power into my daily assignments?

PRAYER: Holy Spirit, thank You for the power You give for every work You call me to. Strengthen me where I am weak, empower me where I feel limited, and break every chain that hinders my assignment. Let Your power rest on me, flow through me, and produce fruit that brings glory to Jesus. Amen.
