THE ARMOUR OF GOD!

Ephesians 6:10-20 TLB

Last of all I want to remind you that your strength must come from the Lord's mighty power within you. [11] Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand safe against all strategies and tricks of Satan. [12] For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against persons without bodies-the evil rulers of the unseen world, those mighty satanic beings and great evil princes of darkness who rule this world; and against huge numbers of wicked spirits in the spirit world. [13] So use every piece of God's armor to resist the enemy whenever he attacks, and when it is all over, you will still be standing up. [14] But to do this, you will need the strong belt of truth and the breastplate of God's approval. [15] Wear shoes that are able to speed you on as you preach the Good News of peace with God. [16] In every battle you will need faith as your shield to stop the fiery arrows aimed at you by Satan. [17] And you will need the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit-which is the Word of God. [18] Pray all the time. Ask God for anything in line with the Holy Spirit's wishes. Plead with him, reminding him of your needs, and keep praying earnestly for all Christians everywhere. [19] Pray for me, too, and ask God to give me the right words as I boldly tell others about the Lord and as I explain to them that his salvation is for the Gentiles too. [20] I am in chains now for preaching this message from God. But pray that I will keep on speaking out boldly for him even here in prison, as I should.

There are seasons when life feels like a battlefield — not because of people, circumstances, or emotions, but because Scripture tells us plainly that we wrestle not against flesh and blood. Paul lifts the curtain and reveals the spiritual reality behind our struggles. We are in a war, but we are not unarmed. God has provided armour — divine, supernatural, protective, and powerful. With our armour on and by God, Psalm 18:29 declares that we can run against a troop, by my God I can leap over a wall.

This armour is not symbolic. It is spiritual equipment for real battles. It is not optional. It is essential. And it is not passive. It must be put on.

Each piece of the amour serves a purpose.

The first is the Belt of Truth: Paul begins with truth because everything else depends on it. Verse 14 states, “Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist.”

In Roman armour, the belt held everything together. Without it, the soldier’s weapons and garments fell apart. Can you imagine putting on pants that are either too long or big without a belt to help hold it up. The Lord also needs us to have the belt of truth to help us hold up His word in a wicked and deceptive world, truth stabilizes the believer. God’s truth keeps us from deception, confusion, and instability.

Jesus said, “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” In John 8:32.

Truth is not just information; it’s alignment with God’s Word. When the enemy whisper lies, truth is your anchor.

The second is the Breastplate of Righteousness: This protected the most vital organ, the heart. This righteousness is not selfrighteousness. It is the righteousness of Christ covering us according to 2 Corinthians 5:21. It guards our hearts from guilt, shame, accusation, and condemnation. When the enemy tries to remind you of who you were, righteousness reminds you of who you are.

Thirdly, Shoes of the Gospel of Peace: “And with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.” We can’t walk about barefooted without dirtying or hurting our feet. So, we need foot covering. Roman soldiers wore studded sandals for stability and mobility. Peace gives you footing. Peace keeps you from slipping. Peace allows you to move forward without fear. Jesus gives us his peace in John 14:27. This peace is not the absence of trouble — it is the presence of Christ amid it.

The Shield of Faith is the fourth, it says to “Take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.” Faith is not passive belief. It is active trust. It is the shield that stops the enemy’s arrows — arrows of fear, doubt, discouragement, accusation, and intimidation. Without it we would be easily defeated.

When Goliath roared, David lifted the shield of faith.

When the storm raged, Jesus asked the disciples, “Where is your faith?”

Faith does not deny reality — it declares God’s authority over it.

The head is the seat of the mind, where your cognitive brain dwells, hence the need for protection from the Helmet of Salvation. The helmet protects the mind. Salvation is not only a past event — it is a present reality. It guards your thoughts, identity, and perspective. The enemy attacks the mind more than any other place. He whispers lies - “You’re not saved… You’re not loved… You’re not enough.” But salvation declares: You are redeemed. You are secure. You are God’s.

You cannot go to battle without a weapon, God gave us on, not just any sword but the Sword of the Spirit — The Word of God. This is the only offensive weapon in the armour. Jesus used it in the wilderness: “It is written…” in Matthew 4:4–10. The Word cuts through lies, breaks strongholds, and pushes back darkness. A believer without the Word is like a soldier without a weapon. A believer who speaks the Word is unstoppable.

And Prayer - Paul ends with prayer: “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit” declares verse 18. Prayer is not listed as a piece of armour because it is the atmosphere in which the armour functions. Without prayer, the armour is worn but not activated.

Prayer releases power. Prayer strengthens the armour. Prayer keeps you alert.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

·       Which piece of the armour do I need to strengthen or intentionally “put on” in this season?

·       What lies, accusations, or attacks have I been facing, and which truth from God’s Word counters them?

·       How can I cultivate a lifestyle of prayer that keeps my armour active and my spirit alert?

PRAYER: Lord, thank You for equipping me with Your armour. Help me stand firm in truth, walk in peace, lift the shield of faith, guard my mind with salvation, and wield Your Word with confidence. Strengthen me through prayer and make me victorious in every spiritual battle. Amen.
