BULLSEYE!
Philippians 3:14 AMPC
I press on toward the goal
to win the [supreme and heavenly] prize to which God in Christ Jesus is calling
us upward.
Bullseye simply means the
centre of a target, the middle point we aim for when we’re shooting at
anything.
The word also means hitting
the exact goal or getting something perfectly right. If someone says, “You hit
the bullseye,” it means you got it exactly right or you achieved the intended
result perfectly.
The bullseye of the
Christian is the will of God. Everything outside His purpose may look close,
admirable, or almost right—but only obedience, surrender, and alignment with
His Word hit the centre of what we were created for.
In archery, the bullseye is
the smallest, most focused point on the target. It requires intention,
steadiness, and clarity of aim. Spiritually, the bullseye is living in the
centre of God’s will—where His purpose, timing, and voice align with our
obedience. Paul says to pursue the precise target of God’s high calling. This
is locking eyes on a single point and refusing to be distracted. This is not
passive Christianity; it is pursuit.
Christianity is not about
shooting arrows randomly, hoping something lands, but about aiming with
purpose. God does not bless every aim; He blesses the aim that aligns with His
heart. Proverbs 3:5–6 reminds us that when we trust in the Lord and acknowledge
Him, He directs our paths. He becomes the One who sets the target and guides
the arrow.
Jesus said, “My food is to
do the will of Him who sent Me” in John 4:34. His satisfaction, strength, and
direction came from hitting the bullseye of the Father’s will daily. He never
drifted into distraction, comparison, or self‑driven ambition. His aim was steady, His
focus unwavering. Even in Gethsemane, when the cost was great, His prayer was
centred according to Luke 22:42. That is the posture of someone who refuses to
miss the mark.
David understood this
pursuit as well. In Psalm 27:4, he expresses a single desire—to dwell in God’s
presence and gaze upon His beauty. That kind of focus narrows the aim. Later,
in Psalm 143:10, he prays, for accuracy. Accuracy is learned, not assumed. We
do not hit the bullseye by accident; but by surrender, training the hearts to
recognise God’s voice and hands to obey His leading.
Missing the bullseye is
easy. Life is full of distractions; good opportunities that are not God’s
assignments, voices that sound wise but are not Spirit‑led, pressures that push us
into decisions God never authored. Fear can pull our aim off-centre. So can
hurry, pride, or the desire to please people. But God, in His mercy, realigns
us. He corrects our posture, steadies our hands, and refocuses our eyes. Psalm
32:8 promises that God will not leave us guessing; He leads us toward the
centre of His will.
In a world filled with
corruption, Genesis 6:22 says, “Noah did everything just as God commanded him.”
His obedience hit the bullseye, and through him, God preserved humanity. Or
Mary in Luke 1:38. When the angel announced God’s plan, responded by surrendering
and aligning her life with heaven’s purpose. Even Paul, once aiming in the
wrong direction, was redirected by God’s grace. After encountering Jesus, his
life became laser-focused on one thing: fulfilling the assignment given to him.
Living at the centre of
God’s will brings clarity, fruitfulness, and peace. It does not mean the path
will be easy, but it will be purposeful. When your aim is God’s will, your
decisions become intentional. Your relationships become aligned. Your steps become
ordered. You stop striving to create your own opportunities and begin walking
through the doors God opens.
Bullseye is not
perfection—it is obedience. It is not busyness—it is alignment. It is not doing
everything—it is doing the right things. It is not being impressive—it is being
surrendered.
And the beautiful truth is
this: God wants you to hit the bullseye more than you want to hit it. He is not
hiding His will from you. He is shaping your desires, renewing your mind, and
guiding your steps so that your life becomes a testimony of His accuracy and
grace.
The bullseye of your life is
God’s will. When your aim aligns with His Word and His voice, your steps become
purposeful, accurate, and fruitful.
