CHILD-FRIENDLY DISPLACEMENT FOR REPLACEMENT!
Ephesians 4:22-25 GNT
So get rid of your old self,
which made you live as you used to-the old self that was being destroyed by its
deceitful desires. [23] Your hearts and minds must be made completely new, [24]
and you must put on the new self, which is created in God's likeness and
reveals itself in the true life that is upright and holy. [25] No more lying,
then! Each of you must tell the truth to the other believer, because we are all
members together in the body of Christ.
This lesson teaches us that
God never takes away something bad without giving us something good in its
place. Real change means removing what is wrong and filling that space with
what is right.
Jesus explains in Matthew
12:43–45 that a clean but empty house can be filled again with the wrong
things. This shows us that when something bad is removed, we must fill the
space with God’s truth.
Paul teaches us to take off
the old self and put on the new self. He shows replacements:
Lies become truth.
Anger becomes peace.
Stealing becomes sharing.
Hurtful words become kind words.
Bitterness becomes forgiveness.
In the Old Testament, God
replaced Israel’s old identity with a new one. Idols were removed and new
altars to God were built. When entering the Promised Land, the people were to
follow God’s ways.
Jesus teaches that God
removes what harms us so we can grow good fruit. The Holy Spirit replaces the
works of the flesh with love, joy, peace, and more.
Spiritual habits also show
this pattern.
Fasting makes room for God.
Worship replaces fear with
trust.
Thankfulness replaces worry
with peace.
God’s Word replaces lies
with truth.
Sometimes people stop a bad
habit but do not start a good one, leaving an empty place. God wants us not
only free but filled.
The best replacement is the
Holy Spirit. He replaces fear with courage, guilt with peace, and our old ways
with the life of Christ.
God removes, and God fills.
He takes away the old and gives us something better.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
• What has God helped you
remove that still needs a good replacement?
• Which habit—prayer,
worship, reading the Bible, fasting—can you start now?
• How can asking the Holy
Spirit to fill your life help your daily choices?
PRAYER: Father, thank You
for Your Word. Take away anything in me that is not like You and fill my heart
with Your Spirit and truth. Let my life be filled with Your presence. In Jesus’
name. Amen.
