CHILD-FRIENDLY GODLY DESIRES!

Psalm 37:4 GNT

Seek your happiness in the LORD, and he will give you your heart's desire.

 

Desire means wanting something. God gave everyone the ability to desire good things. Desire is not bad—God made it! But He wants us to desire the right things.

Some desires are small—like wanting a snack. Others are big—like wanting friends, love, or to know God more. Desires become dangerous only when we want the wrong things or let our desires control us.

God wants our hearts to desire Him most of all. 

Isaiah 26:8 says, “We want to do Your will, Lord. We desire to honour Your name.”

The Bible teaches us to seek God first (Matthew 6:33). When we stay close to Him, our desires become good and pleasing to Him. But when we drift away, wrong desires can begin to grow, like weeds in a garden (Deuteronomy 29:18).

Your heart is like a garden. 

Good desires grow when you spend time with God. Wrong desires grow when you move away from Him.

Samson followed his feelings instead of God, and it led him into trouble (Judges 14:3). 

Solomon once desired wisdom, but later his heart desired wrong things, which led him away from God (1 Kings 11:1–13).

God Himself has desires too. He desires a relationship with us, to care for us, to teach us love, and to save us through Jesus.

When God puts a desire in your heart—like to pray, serve, or grow—He also gives you the strength to do it. Psalm 37:4 says that when we delight in God, He gives us good desires that match His will.

Keep your desires close to God. Let Him shape your heart.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

·       What things do I want right now, and do they please God?

·       Where do I need to spend more time with God so He can give me good desires?

·       How have my past desires helped or hurt me, and what does God want me to desire today?

PRAYER: Lord, thank You for giving me desires. Help me to want the things that make You happy. Change my heart and make Your will my greatest desire. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
