CHILD-FRIENDLY AN ILLEGITIMATE DESIRE FOR MORE!
Hebrews 13:5 GNT
Keep your lives free from
the love of money, and be satisfied with what you have. For God has said,
"I will never leave you; I will never abandon you."
Some desires are good—when
they follow God’s ways. But an illegitimate desire is wanting something in a
wrong or greedy way. Hebrews 13:5 teaches us that our confidence should not be
in money or things, but in God’s presence. He is the One who takes care of us.
Greed says, “I need
more.”
Fear says, “I might lose
what I have.”
Comparison says, “Others
have better.”
But God says: “I am with
you—and I am enough.”
James 4:1–3 shows that wrong
desires lead to fights and selfish prayers.
Jesus warns us in Luke 12:15
not to be greedy, because life is not about things.
1 Timothy 6:9 says wanting
more and more can pull us into trouble.
Proverbs 27:20 reminds us
that a heart without God’s help is never satisfied.
Wrong desire shows up when
we:
1.
Are unhappy with what God gave
2.
Want what He hasn’t given
3.
Think only of ourselves
Desire isn’t bad, but it
becomes dangerous when it ignores God’s limits.
Illegitimate desire makes
our hearts restless.
God’s promise “I will never
leave you” gives us peace and contentment.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
· Am I
wanting something too much?
· Is
my desire coming from fear or trust in God?
· How
can I practise contentment today?
PRAYER: Lord, help me be
content with what You give. Remove any wrong desires and help me trust You.
Amen.
Shalom
