PIDGIN THE COLLATERAL DAMAGE OF SIN!
Romans 5:12 “Na thru one man sin enter dis world and deat kom thru sin. So wi must die, bikos evribody don sin.
When people hear collateral
damage, many dey first think of war — innocent people wey dey suffer because of
fight wey dem no choose and no start. Bible show us similar truth: sin no ever dey
private. Disobedience no dey hide for only one person life. Like ripple for
water, the choice of one person fit bring pain, loss and confusion to many
others.
From Bible side, collateral
damage na the kain suffering or consequence wey fall on other people because of
another person sin, stubbornness or unbelief. You fit see am for tears of
husband or wife wey secret don wound, for struggle of children wey dey live
inside situation because of papa and mama choice, or for hardship of one nation
under wicked leadership. Scripture no dey hide this reality at all; instead, e dey
show us say our lives dey connected, and our decisions — whether holy or sinful
— get impact.
One Bible example na Achan
for Joshua 7:1–12. God tell Israel make dem no take anything from Jericho, but
Achan secretly disobey. When Israel go fight Ai, dem lose badly. Even though na
only one man sin, God still say, “Israel don sin,” because the sin of one
person affect many people destiny. Achan hidden rebellion bring national
consequence.
Another serious example na 2
Samuel 24:10–17, where David, because of pride, order census for Israel. Even
after he repent, plague kill about seventy thousand men for the land. David
cry, “na me sin… but wetin these sheep dem do?” That cry na picture of
collateral damage: leader sin, but na people suffer. Him private pride turn to
public pain.
Bible also show collateral
damage inside family. For Genesis 16, Abram and Sarai try “help” God promise with
Hagar matter. Their impatience give birth to jealousy, rejection and
generational wahala. Ishmael no beg to enter that plan, but he grow inside the
aftermath of their choice. Likewise, for 1 Samuel 2–4, Eli refuse to discipline
him stubborn sons. Him passive leadership open door to national defeat, death
of him sons and fall of him house. Weak spiritual leadership produce wide
destruction.
For root of all spiritual
collateral damage, you go see Adam disobedience. Through one man, sin and death
enter world. Today human beings dey live inside fallout of that first
rebellion: broken relationship, body wey dey decay, injustice and creation wey
dey groan. Yet even for there, Scripture still give hope. If sin fit spread
through one man, how much more grace wey fit overflow through obedience of
Jesus Christ?
This one show deep truth:
even though sin dey cause collateral damage, grace dey create collateral
blessing. Romans 5:20 say, “Where sin abound, grace abound much more.” Joseph
brothers sell am into slavery, but God turn their evil to salvation for
nations. Pharaoh hard heart bring plagues on Egypt, but that same crisis become
stage for Israel deliverance and revelation of God power.
Wetin this mean for us
today? First, we must reject the lie wey say, “My sin na only my business.”
Secret sin dey preach silent sermon for house. Bitterness dey shape spiritual
atmosphere of children. Compromise for leader life dey train generation either
for integrity or for rebellion. Sin always dey pass wetin we plan.
Second, God call us to break
cycles, not to continue am. For Ezekiel 18, God make am clear say pikin wey
choose righteousness no must follow him papa iniquity. Inside Christ we fit say,
“The collateral damage stop with me.” Through repentance, obedience and
surrender, we fit cut generational patterns and give birth to generational
blessings.
Lastly, God dey invite us to
become carrier of healing, no be carrier of harm. Just as Achan disobedience
bring defeat, Abraham obedience bring blessing to all families of the earth.
Your obedience today — your purity, forgiveness, humility, sacrifice, fit
create ripple of blessing wey go touch generations.
Collateral damage na warning
and comfort at the same time. E warn us say our choices heavy, and hidden sin
no ever truly hide. But e also comfort us say God dey see every innocent
sufferer. He dey step inside ruins wey human choice create, and He dey rebuild,
restore and raise back wetin scatter.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
· Where
I don believe the lie say “na only me my sin concern,” even though my choice
dey wound other people?
· Which
generational or cultural pattern I don continue without knowing, instead to
allow God use me to break am?
· Where
I don see God grace enter the collateral damage of my life, and how He dey call
me now to become instrument of healing to others?
PRAYER: Lord God, show me
mercy. Forgive every sin wey don wound others through my words, actions or
weakness. Heal every hidden hurt, restore wetin don break, and make my life
become source of blessing in Jesus’ name. Amen.
