PIDGIN FORGIVENESS – THE DOORWAY TO FREEDOM!

Efesians 4:32  “Make una dey good to one anoda; dey sorry for pipol and dey forgive each oda, just as God forgive una thru Christ.

 

Forgiveness na one of di most beautiful and costly gifts wey God don give human beings. Na di real heart of di gospel. From Genesis reach Revelation, Bible show say God na God wey dey move close to broken people with mercy—not because dem deserve am, but because love na Him nature. But forgiveness still dey hard for many of us to do. E dey stretch person, e dey humble person, and e dey touch di deepest wounds wey dey for our heart. Still, God call us to forgive—not as burden, but as road to freedom. 

When Peter ask Jesus for Matthew 18:21–22 how many times person go forgive, Jesus answer say, “seventy times seven.” Jesus no mean make we count number, but to show say forgiveness for God kingdom no get limit. Forgiveness no be one-time event, but posture of heart wey dey shaped by God mercy toward us, because our forgiveness to others dey connect to how God don forgive us. 

One clear picture of forgiveness for Bible na Joseph story. Him brothers betray am, sell am as slave, lie against am, and forget am for prison. Joseph get all the reason for world to hold bitterness, but when he finally stand before the same people wey hurt am, he talk for Genesis 50:20, “Una mean evil against me, but God turn am for good.” Joseph choose to forgive—not because dem deserve am—but because he see say God dey use him pain bring redemption. Forgiveness help am enter him destiny without di load of resentment. E show compassion, kindness, and grace to release people—na these be di key things for freedom through forgiveness. 

Jesus na di highest example. As He hang for cross—beaten, mocked, and abandoned—He still pray, “Father, forgive them” (Luke 23:34). Forgiveness no be afterthought for Jesus; na di main purpose wey make He come. Through Him sacrifice, we receive forgiveness wey we no fit ever earn. Paul remind us say, “Make una forgive one another, as Christ God don forgive una.” Our own forgiveness to others dey flow from di one we don receive from God. 

But forgiveness no mean say person dey pretend. E no mean say pain no happen. Forgiveness dey look di matter eye-to-eye, feel di hurt, and still choose to release di offender enter God hand. E different from reconciliation wey need repentance and trust building. Forgiveness na wetin you fit do even if di person no ever say sorry. Na decision to drop di load wey God no design you to carry. 

Unforgiveness na silent prison. E tie person to di moment of pain, make person dey replay di scene again and again. E dey drain joy, spoil relationships, and harden person heart. Jesus warn for Matthew 6:14–15 say unforgiveness dey block flow of God mercy inside our life. No be say God no wan forgive, but because heart wey refuse to forgive no dey open to receive forgiveness. 

Forgiveness no easy. Sometimes e dey feel like mission impossible. But God no dey tell us make we forgive by our own power. Holy Spirit na di One wey go give us strength to do wetin our flesh no fit do. He dey soften heart, heal wound, and give us grace to release offense. Forgiveness na journey, and God dey waka di journey with us. 

When we dey forgive, we dey resemble our Papa. We dey break cycle of pain. We dey collect back our peace. We dey open door for God to repair wetin don break. Forgiveness no dey erase past, but e dey change how we relate with am. E dey free us to move forward with hope. 

God dey call you make you enter di freedom wey forgiveness dey bring. No as heavy work, but as gift. No as loss, but as victory. Forgiveness no mean say you dey let person off di hook—na you dey release yourself from prison.

·       Who God dey show you make you forgive, and wetin you dey feel when you think about releasing dat person? 

·       How God forgiveness toward you don shape di way you dey respond to other people mistake? 

·       Wetin step—whether small or big—you fit take this week to practice forgiveness for difficult area of your life? 

PRAYER: Father, thank You for di mercy wey You don show me through Christ. Give me grace to forgive as You don forgive me. Heal my heart, soften my spirit, and free me from every weight of bitterness. Help me to release every offense into Your hands and walk for di freedom wey Your love dey bring. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
