PIDGIN GODLY DESIRES!

Psalm 37:4 “Make yu depend on God and E go give yu evritin wey yu wont.

 

Desire na strong force wey dey inside every human being. Na natural longing wey dey wake up any time we think or taste sometin good—sometin we wan enjoy, get, or hold tight. God na di One wey put dis ability to desire inside us; physical desire, emotional desire, mental desire, material desire, and most important, spiritual desire. Desire itself no be sin; na gift. But like every gift, e need correct direction. 

Desire fit be healthy or unhealthy, godly or ungodly, small or strong. You fit desire sometin simple like one warm cup of coffee, or deeper tins like meaningful relationship, purpose, or spiritual growth. But desire fit turn dangerous if e focus on wrong tins—when e turn craving wey dey control us, like Samson desire for forbidden relationship or di wahala of addictive substances. Di problem no be desire, but wetin we point am to. 

God design desire as way to express wetin dey our heart. When desire point to wetin good, right, and wey honour God, e go turn source of strength and joy. Isaiah 26:8 talk am well: “O Lord, we love to do Your will! Our hearts desire to glorify Your name.” Dis na highest kind desire—to dey long for God Himself. 

Bible dey always call us make we direct our desires go God side. Jeremiah 29:13 promise say, “You go find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.” Jesus repeat am for Matthew 6:33: “Seek first the Kingdom of God… and all these things will be added to you.” When God become our greatest desire, every other thing go carry correct position. 

To waka close to God na di surest way to grow godly desires. When we dey far from am, our heart go turn ground wey ready for weed—ungodly cravings, selfish ambition, and destructive passion. Deuteronomy 29:18 warn say when pesin turn back from God begin desire other gods, poisonous root go start to grow. Desire dey always plant sometin—either beauty or bitterness. 

Your heart be like garden. Wetin go grow there depend on wetin you plant, wetin you water, and where you dey stay. When you spend time for God presence, di desires wey go grow inside you go be desires of purity, purpose, and blessing. But when you distance yourself from am, wrong desires go begin grow sharp-sharp and quietly. 

Samson na serious example. Him “get her for me” attitude show say na impulse dey drive am, no be obedience. E want wetin e want, even if e go against God law and him parents counsel. Many times, di desires wey dey shout pass na dem dey carry us enter deepest trouble. Judges 14:3 show how Samson desire carry am commot from God plan. 

Solomon story teach us another lesson. For 1 Kings 3:5, God show say Him know di desires inside Solomon heart—even before Solomon talk am. God dey see di desires wey we hide from people and sometimes from ourselves. But later for Solomon life, we see say desire fit shift. Di same man wey first desire wisdom later begin desire pleasure, power, and foreign women, and na so him fall for 1 Kings 11:1–13. Desire fit lift pesin up—or destroy am. 

But make we remember say na God first start desire. Because of Him desire for relationship, Him create human beings. Because Him desire make we get joy, Him fill world with beauty, variety, and plenty. Because Him desire care for us, Him provide food, shelter, and resources. Because Him desire teach us love, Him give marriage and family. And because Him desire save us, Him send Jesus Christ to redeem us. 

Desire na one of God better gifts because e dey fuel passion, purpose, and pursuit. When God put desire inside your heart—whether na for ministry, service, growth, or obedience—Him go still give you strength to fulfil am. But motive must correct. Anything wey we do for God suppose come from pure desire, no be pride, pressure, or performance. 

As you open every area of your life give God, Him go begin reshape your desires to match Him own. Psalm 37:4 promise say, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” E no mean say God go just dey give us anything we want; e mean say Him go put correct desires inside us, then come fulfil dem. 

Make you persistently pursue godly desires. Keep dem hot for God presence. As you dey delight yourself in am, Him go align your heart with Him own and bring to pass di desires wey Him plant inside you. 

REFLECTION QUESTIONS 

·       Which desires dey my heart now, and how dem take align with God will and purpose for my life? 

·       Which area of my life I need spend more intentional time for God presence so that Him go fit reshape my desires? 

·       How my past desires—godly or ungodly—take shape my spiritual journey, and wetin God dey call me to desire now? 

PRAYER: Thank You, Lord, for di desires wey You put inside me. Make Your Spirit lead me so that every desire wey I get go bring glory to You. Shape my heart, purify my motives, and make Your will become my greatest longing. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
