PIDGIN HUMBLED AND LIFTED!

James 4:10 “  If una put una body down for God, E go karry una go up.

 

The posture wey dey bring God power na humility! Humility no be weakness; na the position wey make space for God strength. James explain this mystery clearly for one simple command: “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He g lift you up.” Humility no be something wey God dey force on us, na something wey we must choose by ourselves. But once we choose am, God go respond with lifting, honour, and grace. 

All through Bible, God dey always draw near to people wey humble. Psalm 34:18 say God dey close to the broken-hearted. Isaiah 57:15 say the High and Exalted God dey live with those wey get humble and contrite spirit. Even Jesus Himself for Matthew 23:12 say, “Whoever humble himself go dey exalted.” The pattern clear — our humility na the road to God lifting. 

But humility no be only attitude — na way of life. E mean to surrender your pride, your self-reliance, and your need to always control results. E mean to choose God way over your own, even when Him way slow, quiet or hide. And e also mean you believe say God dey see wetin others no dey notice, and He dey reward wetin others dey overlook. 

The same God wey dey lift the lowly according to Psalm 113:7, na only those wey humble He go lift. One clear Bible example of humility wey lead to lifting na Hannah. For 1 Samuel 1, she pour out her soul before God — no acting, show off, just plain truth and deep surrender. She call herself God servant, showing say she depend on God completely. God answer her by giving her Samuel, the prophet wey later guide Israel destiny. Her humility open the door to her lifting. 

Look Joseph. Dem betray am, sell am, and later imprison am. But Joseph no allow bitterness block his heart. He faithfully trust God hand even when he no see the full picture. Genesis 39 repeat say, “God dey with Joseph.” And for Genesis 41, God lift am from prison to palace for one single day. The humility wey he show for hiding make way for honour wey show for public. 

Then we get Jesus — the perfect example. Philippians 2:6–9 talk say even though He be equal with God, He humble Himself, take servant form, and die for cross. Because of that, “God exalt Am to the highest place.” The greatest lifting for history come through the greatest humility ever. 

So wetin humility look like for daily life? 

Humility no mean to see yourself as small; e mean to think less about yourself and more about God will. E mean to choose God plan instead of your own even when your way look easier. E mean to listen before you talk, to serve before you seek attention, and to obey even when obedience dey cost you. 

Sometimes humility na when you say sorry first. Na to let go of the need to always dey right. E mean to step aside so another person fit shine. E mean to admit say you need God help. 

And many times, humility na when you accept say you no fit lift yourself. Promotion, breakthrough and honour na only God hand e dey (Psalm 75:6–7). When you stop to struggle to lift yourself, you give God space to lift you for Him own time — the kind lifting wey only Him fit do. 

God lifting different from human promotion. Man fit lift you today drop you tomorrow; e depend on performance. But God lifting dey stand firm — based on Him love, plan, and timing. When God lift you, nobody fit pull you down. When God open door, no one fit close am. When God honour you, no man fit dishonour you. 

To dey lifted by God fit look like this: 

- Strength when others think say you go break. 

- Peace for condition wey suppose scatter your mind. 

- Favour wey you no work for. 

- Opportunities wey you no chase. 

- Restoration wey you no fit arrange by yourself. 

- Influence wey come from character, no be ambition. 

Humility na the posture wey prepare you for this kind lifting. E join your heart with God heart, and your pace with God pace. E free you from struggle and plant you deep inside trust. E remind you say the same God wey dey lift people up na the God wey dey see you where you stand.

·       Where God dey ask you to surrender control and trust Am more deeply? 

·       Which area of your life need humility — to apologise, to step back, or to listen? 

·       How God don lift you before, and wetin that teach you about His nature? 

PRAYER: Papa, teach me the beauty of humility. Help me bow low before You with willing heart, trusting say Your lifting better pass any other. Remove pride, and self-reliance from my spirit. Make me surrender, and ready to hear Your voice for Your perfect time, lift me to glory Your name, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
