PIDGIN MIRROR! MIRROR OF THE WORD!
2 Korintians 3:18 “All of us wey don bilive Christ, God glory dey show for awa face. So di Spirit dey help us shange, so dat wi go bi like Christ.
Mirrors! You either like dem
and get dem or you no too send!
Every house get mirror, and
for this our time now, everywhere you look, mirror dey look you back – na
vanity dey push us make we dey check and re-check our appearance, arrange make‑up and dey admire ourselves
every minute. But mirror na just shadow of reflection because e only dey see
and show the outer, physical person.
“Mirror, mirror, on the
wall, who be the fairest of them all?” Na wetin full our culture today because
of the original story. For the 1937 Disney classic, Snow White and the Seven
Dwarfs, the Wicked Queen talk this famous line: “Magic mirror, on the wall –
who be the fairest one of all?” She dey use her magic wall mirror find the most
beautiful woman for the kingdom so that she fit remove am from road.
We dey use mirror to correct
physical mistake for our appearance like rough hair, and bad make‑up, but mirror no dey fix
us, e only show wetin need correction.
Thing about God mirror be
say: e dey always talk truth, even if we no like wetin we see! God Word, the
Bible, na the only correct mirror wey dey tell us as we be for God face.
Physical mirror fit flatter us, but God mirror dey talk am as e be! So anybody
wey turn to God get freedom for spirit to receive wetin Moses no know or no
get, as we dey become more like Christ, dey reflect the glory of God according
to John 4:4.
Broken, bent or dirty mirror
no dey work well and e no dey show the correct image, even though mirror no fit
show wetin dey inside person. Just like the world, mirror no get clear
understanding of wetin right or wrong be. Our view dey blur, bend and no fit
reveal wetin real or full truth, as we see for 1 Corinthians 13:12. Mirror only
good to point out and highlight our imperfections.
Mirror! Mirror! On the wall
who be the best of them all – na wetin we dey do when we stand for front of our
mirror. We dey look ourselves and conclude say na we be standard, so we take
our performance measure everybody, even ourselves. But wetin we suppose dey
talk be: “Mirror! Mirror! of God Word, show me who I suppose be.” Humanity dey
progress, we dey learn new things every day. Psychologists define learning as
“a relatively permanent change in behaviour that occurs as a result of
experience.” But real permanent change dey only inside Christ.
James 1:23 mean say those
wey no dey do God Word go forget how their natural face be after dem don look
am well for mirror – “the countenance of his birth”: the face wey dem born am
with. As person fit behold him natural face for mirror, na so the hearer fit
see their moral face for God Word. We no fit turn supernatural beings by using
natural power and dey do things wey no follow Scripture. We must study God Word
with the same seriousness as we dey use mirror, meaning say serious study of
the Word of God dey hold our inner man for front of God mirror wey dey reveal
our cracks and imperfections according to 2 Timothy 2:15. Forgetful hearer na
person wey see himself for God mirror but then waka comot and no do anything,
as James 1:24 talk am. Bible no be like any other mirror because e fit change
us! God mirror fit make us fine outside but even more beautiful for
inside!
Mirror! Mirror! on the wall
or Mirror! Mirror! of God Word! Which one better, which one you prefer? Allow
the Word of God remove the veil from your face so you fit receive all the
benefits of the new covenant.
REFLECTION QUESTION
· What
areas of my life the mirror of God Word dey show say need transformation, and
how willing I be to surrender them to the Holy Spirit?
· In
what ways I don dey depend on natural “mirrors” like self‑perception, culture or
performance instead of make God Word define my true identity?
· How
I fit become consistent doer of the Word, no be forgetful hearer, so that true
and permanent change go happen inside me?
PRAYER: Lord, help me humbly
and seriously look into the mirror of your Word and make I dey transformed
every day through the reflection of your Spirit, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
