PIDGIN VANITY FAIR!
Ekklesiastes 1:2 “Di tisha sey, “Evritin dey yuzles!
Yes, evritin really dey
yuzles!”
If you don ever go
fairground before, you go know say e dey hard to comot after you don enjoy all
di rides and attractions wey full of lights and noise. You go chop sweet things
full of sugar, taste colourful snacks, and enjoy di lively environment wey dey
bubble everywhere. But as sweet as di fair dey, e dey cost well-well. When di
excitement don finish, regret go come follow—regret say you waste money, say
your body and mind don tire from all di waka.
Our text talk say, “Vanity
of vanities… all na vanity.” Dis talk no be poem wey just sweet for ear—na
strong word. E mean complete emptiness, di kind of life wey dey useless when
person dey chase things wey fit sweet for small time but no get lasting value.
True and solid good no dey for anything wey dey fade, change, or spoil. Just
like di fairground, di things wey world dey offer dey last only for short
time—sometimes for one season, or until di excitement finish.
Life na like fairground. We
dey here only for small time—not because we choose am, but because God allow
us. Bible use di word vanity to describe foolish pride, emptiness, or when
person live life without God. Dem born every human being with sin, and when
Adam fall, even creation itself come suffer emptiness (Romans 8:20–22). Since
dat time, mankind dey go through wahala—work, pain, small-small happiness, and
finally death. But Bible clear say without Christ, nothing under di sun fit
give person real fulfilment.
“Vanity Fair” represent di
empty lifestyle wey many people for our time dey live, dem day chase pleasure
wey no fit bring eternal gain. Proverbs 31:30 remind us say life short, make we
no waste am for unprofitable things. Solomon wey try every kind enjoyment for
dis world still talk say di matter be like chasing wind (Ecclesiastes 1:14). No
matter how fast person run, e no fit catch wind.
Just look around—evil don
become normal. Things wey dem dey hide before don become things wey people dey
celebrate openly. I pass one restaurant recently wey dem call “7 Sins.” I check
their menu, and see food wey dem name after di seven deadly sins: pride, wrath,
gluttony, greed, lust, envy, and sloth. Dis no be virtue for any society, but
people dey happily order food with those names. Na sign say dis generation don
become comfortable with darkness—even if them no know. People no just dey
tolerate vanity again; dem don embrace am, dey promote am, and don even tie
their identity to am.
We even dey see products and
luxury items with names like guilty pleasure, poison, and toxic waste—names wey
sound small but dey affect how person reason, our house, and wetin dey spirit.
We no dey even know when these things dey shape our life.
Romans 12:2 warn us make we
no dey follow di pattern of this world, but make we allow God renew our mind.
Ephesians 5:16 still remind us say di days wey we dey live now bad; we need waka
wisely and make good use of our time.
Everything wey di world dey
show us na short time joy—empty and worthless. Di fairground fit give you small
fun, but later e go leave your pocket dry and belle pain. Na so “Vanity Fair”
life be too—person go enjoy small but soul go dry, spirit go dey distracted,
and purpose go fade.
Na only Christ fit give real
meaning, fulfilment, and eternal promise. Life wey root inside Am no dey waste.
Vanity Fair na vanity, but life wey anchor for Christ full of richness,
purpose, and eternal value.
