REVIVED, RESTORED, RECHARGED!
Isaiah 40:29 AMPC
He gives power to the faint
and weary, and to him who has no might He increases strength [causing it to
multiply and making it to abound].
Almost everyone who owns a
mobile phone has a power bank because you never know when your battery will run
out and electrical power source may not be available. The spirit also needs charging
and recharging; in fact, we need to always remain connected to the power bank
of the Holy Spirit to not have spiritual low battery.
The three‑part declaration captures
the spiritual journey every believer goes through, especially when life drains
our strength, zeal, and focus. Why would we need these? Life happens!
Circumstances and situations occur that drain our stamina, strength, zeal and
vision.
We all need regeneration
(not like DR Who though) and revival and restoration to keep running purposely,
fruitfully and productively in all areas of life. The word of God in Psalm 19:7
says “The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the [whole] person; the
testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. This is the only power
prescribed, reliable, right, pure, holy, and true that can revive depleted
energy and give life.
Revived — God breathes life
back into what has weakened.
Restored — God realigns and
refills every depleted area.
Recharged — God empowers you
afresh for the next season.
Your teaching emphasizes
that this is an ongoing process:
Life drains us → God restores us → The Spirit recharges us.
Anyone requiring recharging must first recognise the need for a recharge! And Jesus offers us this much-needed recharge in Mark 6:30-32. Jesus told the disciples, as He equally says to us, ‘Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.’ We too must take time out, to eat, rest, relax and be rejuvenated for the next level and season of life, for work, ministry, family and whatever else we need energy for. Many of us are coming and going just as Jesus’ Apostles, He’s, saying to us as He did them to come away from the crowds for a while to rest and be recharged. Jesus’ reaction is very important because it underscores the need for one not to be carried away by activities, even supposed spiritual activities, and fail to recharge one’s spiritual battery.
Jesus knows that after
labouring so much on the field, we’ll need to recharge our batteries to be
refreshed and strengthened for greater productivity. A phone’s battery power
can be used up if it’s not continuously charged. If the battery is dead because
it’s not been charged, the phone will not work, making it redundant and useless
for service, requiring therefore a recharge.
Proverbs 20:29 says that the
glory of the young is their strength and from Isaiah 40:30-31 we see that the
youths may be a bundle of energy, but they can exhaust their strength (meaning
that even the young people get weak and run out of steam and strength and would
need spiritual strength). The old cannot boast of inexhaustible strength if
youths can be exhausted. That means
everybody can exhaust their strength, and nobody should be under any illusion
that their strength is inexhaustible. We
must feed ourselves daily with the Word of God to recharge our spiritual
battery, it must be a priority. Quoting
Deuteronomy 8:3 in Matthew 4:4, Jesus said, “Man shall not live by bread alone,
but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” This means that natural
food will never supply spiritual strength or recharge lost power. We must
invest our time in personal prayer because we can't succeed by physical
strength according to 1 Samuel 2:9. Don’t let a busy schedule crowd out prayer
from your life. Fellowship with
spiritually alive and vibrant people who would help you grow spiritually or
keep you spiritually alive by recharging each other.
Is your battery full and
needs no charging or are you running out of juice and are in desperate need of
recharging?
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
· In
what areas of my life do I notice my spiritual “battery” running low, and what
is the Holy Spirit inviting me to change so I can be revived?
· Have
I allowed busyness—even spiritual activity—to replace the rest, retreat, and
personal time with Jesus that I need for true restoration?
· What
daily practices (Word, prayer, fellowship) do I need to strengthen so I stay
spiritually charged and connected to the ‘power bank’ of the Holy Spirit?
PRAYER: Lord, when I’m
running on low, help me know how and when to top up my spiritual batteries and
be fully recharged for your glory in Jesus’ name. Amen.
