THE VOLUME OF THE BOOK!
Psalm 40:7 AMPC
Then said I, Behold, I come;
in the volume of the book it is written of me;
There is a profound comfort
in knowing that God is not merely observing your life—He is authoring it. Every
chapter, whether celebrated or painful, loud or hidden, is intentionally
written by His hand. Nothing about your journey is accidental. Nothing is
wasted. Nothing is filler. Every line is crafted with wisdom, mercy, and a love
that sees farther than you ever could.
David understood this truth
deeply. In Psalm 40, he reflects on a God who does not abandon His people to
the pit or leave them drowning in despair. Instead, David describes a God who
bends low, hears the cry of His child, lifts him out of the muddy place, sets
his feet on solid ground, and places a new song in his mouth. David’s rescue
was not a divine afterthought. It was part of the story God had already written
for him. His deliverance was not a surprise to heaven—it was a scheduled
chapter.
But Psalm 40:7 reaches its
fullest meaning in Jesus. Hebrews 10:7 reveals Christ stepping into time with a
clear awareness of His divine assignment: “Behold, I have come—in the volume of
the book it is written of Me—to do Your will, O God.” Jesus lived with the
confidence that His life was aligned with a heavenly script. His obedience was
not random; it was intentional. His sacrifice was not improvised; it was
foretold. And through His obedience, the greatest chapter of redemption was
written for us.
This same truth rests on
your life. Ephesians 2:10 declares that you are God’s workmanship—His poem, His
masterpiece—created for good works that He prepared long before you took your
first breath. Your story is not unfolding by chance. The pages of your life
were written with purpose before you ever lived them. God has already authored
chapters of mercy, restoration, impact, and transformation. Even the parts that
feel confusing or unfinished are held securely in His hands.
Some chapters are full of
joy—bright pages where everything seems to align.
Some chapters stretch
you—where God enlarges your capacity and deepens your trust.
Some chapters heal you—where
God gently rewrites what pain once tried to define.
Some chapters are still
being written—where you can’t yet see the ending, but God is already there.
And through it all, the
Author remains faithful.
Your calling is not to
rewrite your story out of fear or comparison. Your calling is to walk
faithfully in the story God has authored for you. To echo the words of Jesus: “I
come to do Your will.” To trust, like David, that God is lifting you, steadying
you, and giving you a new song even when the page you’re on feels dark or
uncertain.
When you understand that God
is the Author, you stop panicking over plot twists.
You stop resenting the slow
chapters.
You stop comparing your
storyline to someone else’s.
You stop trying to skip
ahead or erase what God intends to redeem.
Instead, you begin to walk
with confidence. You begin to read your life with hope. You begin to trust that
the God who writes your story is incapable of making mistakes. You begin to
believe that even the chapters you would never have chosen are being woven into
something purposeful and beautiful.
Your story is sacred because
the Author is holy.
Your story is meaningful
because the Author is intentional.
Your story is safe because
the Author is merciful.
So walk boldly. Walk
obediently. Walk with expectation. The pages ahead of you are filled with
divine thoughtfulness. God is not finished writing, and He writes with a pen
dipped in grace.
