UNITED IN BLESSING!

Psalm 133:1-3 AMPC

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! [2] It is like the precious ointment poured on the head, that ran down on the beard, even the beard of Aaron [the first high priest], that came down upon the collar and skirts of his garments [consecrating the whole body]. [3] It is like the dew of [lofty] Mount Hermon and the dew that comes on the hills of Zion; for there the Lord has commanded the blessing, even life forevermore [upon the high and the lowly].

The familiar motto, “united we stand, divided we fall,” often shortened to “united we stand,” expresses the power of unity and collaboration. It reminds us that working together is not only easier but far more effective, because there is strength in numbers. The Christian walk is no different—there is a cooperative blessing reserved for those who are united in Christ. Fellowship unites us in blessing, and blessing strengthens our fellowship.

Psalm 133 reveals that a special blessing rests upon fraternal unity. The fragrant oil poured on Aaron—rich, refreshing, and overflowing—symbolizes the abundant and extravagant grace of God. Just as the dew of Mount Hermon brings life and fruitfulness to Mount Zion, unity among believers produces spiritual vitality and good works.

Psalm 133 was written by David as one of the “Songs of Ascents.” These psalms were sung by pilgrims traveling to Jerusalem for the major feasts. As they journeyed together—families, tribes, and nations united in purpose—they would sing about unity. This shows that unity was not an abstract idea; it was a lived experience of God’s people walking, worshipping, and rejoicing together as one. We too must emulate this attitude of unity.

Ephesians 4:12 shows that blessing is not merely individual divine favour, but a divine communion that fosters intimacy with God and unity among His people. When believers walk in peace, love, and harmony, they reflect the heart of Christ Himself. Scripture tells us, “How good and pleasant it is…”—a promise that God delights in blessing those who choose unity with all that is good, lovely, and life-giving.

The opening verse says how good and pleasant it is, meaning that God will delight believers who walk in unity and love with everything good, lovely, and attractive.

Disunity, on the other hand, quenches the flow of God’s blessing. James 3:16 warns that where there is envy and strife, “there is confusion and every evil work”. Division blocks spiritual growth, weakens prayer, and opens the door for the enemy to sow discord. No wonder Jesus prayed earnestly for unity — because He knew that a divided church cannot stand strong in a divided world.

Jesus’ ultimate prayer was that His people would be one: “I in them and You in Me—so that they may be brought to complete unity” according to John 17:22–23. When we walk in this unity, “united we stand” becomes a spiritual weapon, pushing back darkness and drawing down the rain of God’s blessing.

There is something powerful about fellowshipping with people of like mind, regardless of background or nationality. In such unity, conversations flow easily because the bond of love in Christ transcends earthly differences.

We live in extreme and divided times. Disunity, competition, and comparison plague every sector of society—including, unfortunately, the church. Many are striving to outdo one another in ministry, business, personal achievement, or church growth. But believers are called to something higher.

Hebrews 10:24–25 reminds us of our responsibility to encourage one another in love and to remain committed to communal fellowship. As children of light according to 1 John 1:7, we cannot live like those walking in darkness. The oil that flowed from Aaron’s head down to his robe signifies that our blessings in the Kingdom are interconnected. When one believer is blessed, we all partake. There is no such thing as isolated or private blessing in God’s design.

Unity is not automatic—it requires humility, patience, forgiveness, and intentional love. It means choosing understanding over assumptions, grace over judgment, and peace over pride. Every believer has a role to play. Ask yourself: Am I a peacemaker? Am I contributing to unity or tension? Walking in unity is a daily decision that honours God and unlocks His commanded blessing.

Today, unity still brings tangible blessings. When families walk in unity, peace reigns in the home. When churches embrace unity, revival becomes possible. When ministry teams work together without competition, the Kingdom advances rapidly. Unity multiplies strength, amplifies impact, and accelerates God’s purposes. Even in business or community involvement, unity attracts favour and gives room for progress.

When we walk in unity, we stand united in blessings, sharing in the portion God releases upon His people.
