CHILD-FRIENDLY COME AND SEE!
John 1:35,37-39 GNT
The next day John was
standing there again with two of his disciples, [37] The two disciples heard
him say this and went with Jesus. [38] Jesus turned, saw them following him,
and asked, "What are you looking for?" They answered, "Where do
you live, Rabbi?" (This word means "Teacher.") [39] "Come
and see," he answered. (It was then about four o'clock in the afternoon.)
So they went with him and saw where he lived, and spent the rest of that day
with him.
The words “Come and see” are
a special invitation from Jesus. They are simple, but they carry a big meaning.
All through the Bible, God invites people to come close to Him, learn from Him,
and see who He really is. Jesus still gives us this same invitation today.
Come and see is an
invitation to know Jesus. When John the Baptist pointed to Jesus and said,
“Look, the Lamb of God!”, two of his followers wanted to meet Jesus. Jesus
asked them, “What do you want?” They said, “Where are You staying?” Jesus
replied, “Come and see.”
He didn’t give them a long
lesson. He invited them to spend time with Him. Jesus wants us to know Him by
being close to Him, talking to Him, and walking with Him every day.
Come and see is an
invitation to see God’s works. When Philip told Nathanael about Jesus,
Nathanael didn’t believe at first. He asked, “Can anything good come from
Nazareth?” Philip didn’t argue. He simply said, “Come and see.”
When Nathanael met Jesus, he
believed right away. Sometimes the best way to help others know Jesus is to
invite them to meet Him for themselves.
Come and see is an
invitation to remember God’s power. Psalm 66:5 says, “Come and see what God has
done.” When we look back at the good things God has done for us, our hearts
become thankful and strong.
Come and see is also an
invitation to bring our feelings to Jesus. When Lazarus died, the people said,
“Lord, come and see.” Jesus came close, felt their sadness, and even cried with
them. Jesus cares about our pain and always stays near.
Today, Jesus still says,
“Come and see My love, My power, and My goodness.”
