CHILD-FRIENDLY QUESTION EVERY SPIRIT!
Acts 16:16 GNT
One day as we were going to
the place of prayer, we were met by a young servant woman who had an evil
spirit that enabled her to predict the future. She earned a lot of money for
her owners by telling fortunes.
Discernment means knowing
what is from God and what is not. It is like having spiritual eyes and ears
that help us stay safe. In Acts 16:16, Paul met a girl who said words that
sounded true, but the spirit speaking through her was not from God. This
teaches us something important: Not every voice that sounds good is from God.
The girl said Paul and Silas
were servants of God — and that was true. But Paul could feel in his heart that
the spirit behind her words was wrong. That is why the Bible says in 1 John 4:1
that we must “test the spirits.” The problem is not always what is said, but who
is saying it and why.
Sometimes the enemy hides
behind things that look nice or sound helpful. In Genesis 3, the serpent
tricked Eve with a question. In Matthew 4, the devil used Scripture wrongly.
Discernment helps us see the truth behind the surface.
Paul and Silas were going to
pray when the girl tried to distract them. Sometimes distractions come looking
friendly. If Paul had accepted her words, people might have believed the wrong
spirit was from God. Discernment keeps our hearts and assignments safe.
It is not about being
afraid. It is about being spiritually alert. Even people who love us can
sometimes speak from the wrong influence, like Peter in Matthew 16:22–23. That
is why we must stay close to the Holy Spirit.
Discernment Grows through:
• Prayer
• Reading the Bible
• Obeying God
• Listening to the Holy
Spirit
When Paul cast out the
spirit, the girl was set free. Discernment helps us and helps others too.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS

can I grow in spiritual sensitivity?

distractions might be pulling me away from God?
PRAYER: Father, open my eyes
to see what is from You. Help me hear Your voice clearly and stay away from
